“This,” said Evan, “is your new office. I mean, if you want it to be.”

Aiden looked back at Evan in confusion.

“You quit your job,” said Evan. “But if you try and run this case out of your house, you’re going to go stir-crazy.”

He was already stir-crazy. Jersey was evidence of that.

“I thought that you could work here. And if, when you get done, you want to hang up your shingle as a consultant, or whatever lawyers call it when they go out on their own…”

“They call it being a lawyer,” said Aiden.

“Well, OK, but I thought you’d at least have some place to do that. If you wanted to, that is.”

Aiden hadn’t mentioned to anyone that he’d been thinking about that. How had Evan known? Aiden turned in a circle looking at the office and ending facing Evan.

“I love it,” said Aiden. “I love it a lot.”

“It was the name that sold me,” said Evan, looking embarrassed.

“I’m totally leaving that. I will be the fucking Daredevil.”

Evan chuckled. “Good. Um, also…”

“What? Seriously, there can’t be more.”

“I may have called Jenna at your office and asked her to come be your clerk secretary thing person.”

“You did what?”

“She said she’s in. You just have to call her tomorrow and she’ll turn in her notice.”

“What?”

“She hates it without you, and she wants to be a law clerk.”

“She should be!”

“Well, if you hire her, she can be.”

“Can I afford to hire her? I mean, what about benefits? She’ll need benefits and things, right?”

“Aiden…” said Evan, with a sigh.

“What?”

“Do you haveanyidea how much money you have?”

“No,” said Aiden. “I never look. I just put my money in the bank and then I buy things. Or invest in whatever you and Dominique tell me to.”

“How can you not have any clue about your money?”

“You take care of that,” said Aiden. “And I make a lot of money, plus we’re rich and I don’t buy a lot of stuff, so I figure it works out.”

He didn’t add that he usually paid for all of his day to day expenses with cash from his fight wins. He actually had an entire suitcase stuffed with cash. He really wasn’t sure what drug dealers did with cash. He always found it somewhat difficult to get rid of since he didn’t party that much. He’d taken to tipping exorbitantly.

Evan looked like he was struggling for words. “Yes, it works out,” he said at last. “It also works out that you can afford Jenna. You’ll probably want other clients after a bit, but it’ll be fine for at least a year.”

“Cool,” said Aiden, looking around the office again. “This is going to be awesome. You’ll help me put together a business plan at some point, right?”
