“Ow!” yelled Hudson as Killian body slammed him down and charged down the stairs a second later.
“Bastian!” Alex barked.
Sebastian made a grab, but Killian dodged, heading straight for the door. Pellos was the one who managed to get him in a headlock until the others could get a hold on him. With half the pack hanging off him, Killian realized that it wasn’t Moira at the door and found himself staring into the puzzled blue eyes of Moira’s uncle Rafe. He was bearded and wearing motorcycle boots, jeans, and possibly the same blue t-shirt from Moira’s photo of him.
Hudson, Yazmin, and Eliandra came down the stairs and Killian realized that his personal tragedy was about to be played out for the entire pack.
“Hi,” said the man at the door. “My name is Rafe DeSa…”
“Let go of me,” yelled Moira from outside.
“Moira!” Killian surged forward.
“Yeah, you might want to slow your roll there, youngster,” said Rafe at the door.
“If you are hurting Moira,” said Alex evenly. “I don’t think I can or want to slow him down.”
Killian had never appreciated Alex more.
“Uh-huh,” said the man, nodding. “Us hurting Moira is really not the problem you need to be worrying about.”
“You tell Killian I’m going to fucking rip his ears off!” Moira yelled. “I will rip off his stupid pointy ears and shove them up his fucking nose!”
Trevor laughed, chuckling unstoppably. “You done fucked up now, son. That Sheila is maaaaaad.”
“Ah,” said Alex. “That does make more sense.”
“Does it?” asked Rafe. “Because I have to admit that I’m still confused. Also, you have selkies in your pack?”
There was an awkward silence. “We have associated selkies,” said Lia. “Who are… like… cousins.” Everyone looked at Trevor and Colin.
“Right,” said Colin. “We’re associated because Mum said.”He and Trevor exchanged confirming nods. Cousins was an apparently acceptable designation.
“And not because Lia is collecting shifters, no matter what other people say,” said Yazmin. Sebastian tried not to laugh as Lia glared at them.
“OK, but you two are human,” Rafe said, pointing at Lia and Yazmin. “So I’m assuming some of you took the cure.”
“Uh…” said Alex.
“What cure?” asked Lia.
“Uh…” said Alex.
“It worked for us,” said Hudson, taking Yazmin’s hand.
“Congratulations,” Rafe said drily. “We’ll have to get you on the list, but seriously, what the fuck? Can someone explain why he took it and left?”
Killian watched as everyone in the room avoided looking at Pellos.
There was the sound of someone running up the stairs and Moira arrived all in a rush her dark hair fluffing around her face in the tendrils he loved. “There are bodies!” she gasped.
“I told you we needed to clean those up,” muttered Sebastian.
“Warlocks… Where is Killian? Is Killian all right?”
Everyone let go of Killian, giving him a little space, and he tried to stand up and look a little more dignified.
“You’re fine?” she demanded.
