“Then do explain because I’m having trouble with it,” said Augusta folding her arms.

“Well, you know how there are some humans who are fated to be our mates,” said Killian, feeling like he was walking out on a tightrope that he was weaving as he spoke and hoping that his memory wasn’t lying to him.

“Yes,” said Augusta. “We have read of such things. I’m not sure I believe it.”

“No, it’s true,” said Moira. “Not every human is right for us. Just like not every wolf isthe one.Killian’s my one.” She smiled at Killian, and he couldn’t stop himself from kissing her.

“Uh-huh,” said Augusta, sounding unimpressed.

“Well, for wolves, we can mate with any wolf, although it is better to find our fated mate. But it’s not the same for humans. We can’t mate with just any human. The humanhasto be fated,” said Moira.

“Mmm, that sounds more like they probably have a magical bloodline or probably latent wolf blood somewhere,” said Augusta.

“How can you not believe in fate?” demanded Moira, outraged.

“Meh,” said Augusta with a shrug.

“OK, well,” said Killian, “whether there is an explanation for fate or not, the point is that not all humans are our humans. We think humans that could be werewolves are probably like potential mates. We would have to find them. We’re not raising slaves. We are looking for the humans that are meant to be with us.”

“And those ones,” said Moira, pointing out across the lake, “arenotours. They’re called warlocks, and we hate them. They smell gross.”

“And they’re evil people,” said Killian. “Regardless of their species, they’re just plain bad.”

“That much is evident. It is also evident that our spells to block their technology do not work against some of their more basic mechanical devices. And those devices are dangerous.”

The librarian reached into the pocket of her bathrobe and pulled out one of the warlock bullets. It was encased in a blue bubble of magic.

“Not only have they broughtiron,”she hissed the word in distaste, “into the library, but they also contaminated it even further. Even touching these things will be dangerous for my people.”

Moira sighed and glanced at Killian before squaring her shoulders.

“We will help you,” said Moira. “Those people are dangerous for all of us, and even if you cannot or will not give us what we want, we will still help you fight them. They cannot be allowed to hurt more people or gain access to any of the information here. We are Supernaturals, and we must come together.”

Augusta frowned.

“The last recorded interaction with wolves was not so… altruistic,” she said.

“I cannot speak for all wolves,” said Moira, “But I do speak for my pack. We cannot allow evil like that to flourish. We willalwaysstand by anyone who wishes to fight them.”

Killian wanted to give a fist pump offuck yeah, I’m with herbut managed to simply stand up straight and look like Moira always went around sounding like a goddamn queen.

Augusta frowned but finally nodded. “Very well. If you can help rid us of these warlocks, then we will give you the werewolf records.”

Killian wanted to add getting their memories back but didn’t want to interrupt.

“Thank you,” said Moira, with a gracious nod. “We will do our best.”

Moira

“Well, we’re fucked,” said Moira, pacing the carpet in their bungalow again. “Why did you let me talk?” Killian burst out laughing. “That’s not helping!”

“Why shouldn’t you have said anything?” he demanded, still laughing.

“You were being all Mr. Reasonable Adult, and I thought I should try that and then… Next thing I know, I’m spouting absolute crap.”
