“Maybe I’ll just hold onto it for now,” said Moira.

“Good call,” said Cynog. “Oh, look the sprites have joined us. That hasn’t happened in a few centuries.”

Moira heard the heavy pounding of feet on the wooden stairs, and then Killian was running toward her. She laughed in relief, and then he was there, his arms around her, holding her and kissing her.

“You scared the shit out of me,” he muttered between kisses.

“Me?” gasped Moira. “I thought you were going to get shot.”

“I thought we were all going to blow up,” said Killian.

“So did I!” agreed Moira.

“You said you believed I could do it,” said Sorcha.

“I absolutely knew you could do it,” said Moira firmly, gesturing with the necklace hand, the entire contraption jangling. “I just also thought we might blow up.”

“We might still blow up,” said Killian, looking at the wall of explosives. “I’m not going to be happy until all of those are out of the library.”

“Agreed,” said Cynog.

Moira nodded but leaned her head onto Killian’s shoulder. “Sure, but can maybe someone else do it? I think my nerves are shot.”

“We will take care of it, Moira,” said Ceallach smiling at her. “I think you and Killian have done enough for one day.”

Episode 28

Recovering

Moira

Moira smiled at a small elven child who was waving a flag with a wolf on it. Killian was embarrassed, but Moira was loving their reception. It was as though it was national wolf day.

“This is so weird,” complained Killian for the fiftieth time as they made their way back through the streets of level seven to their bungalow.

“What is so weird?” demanded Moira.

“Well, there was the parade,” said Killian. “Not something you get every day at home. Then there was the feast with the singing.”

“I liked the singing!”

“It was lovely. I wish I understood more of it, but still, ballads about wolves were… a new experience. And then we got a medal.” He picked the golden disk up off his chest and squinted at it.

“Well, we wereveryheroic,” said Moira.

“No, I wasn’t. All I managed to do was keep myself from killing Lonnie until you could save the day.”

“Well, to be perfectly honest, if we’d switched places, I probably would have killed him straight off and then we all would have been blown to smithereens. So, I find your lack of murder quite impressive,” said Moira. “Also, I did not save the day. Sorcha and Cynog did that.”

“That is not how they tell it.”

“That’s also not what Ceallach says about you,” said Moira.

“This just feels very strange,” said Killian. “And I feel like an imposter.”

“Or maybe you are just getting the recognition that you deserve,” suggested Moira.

Killian looked like he was thinking this over. She didn’t think he would go for it, but she wanted to know how long it would take him to reject the idea.
