Gemma paled, then glanced at the two of us, and Brian smoothly leaned in, hugging Gemma close. “Maybe once we can get her mother on board.”

Imogen rolled her eyes. “Can’t she see how happy you three are? I’ll have a talk with her. Perhaps after tomorrow’s ceremony, she’ll be more accepting.”

Before I could say more, she bustled off, and Gemma shot us a wide-eyed look. “You want to get married?”

I elbowed Brian, and he cleared his throat. “Um, well, we’d meant to save this for later, but…” He reached into his back pocket, and pulled out the box he and I had bought together. “Will you marry us, Gemma? I mean… not legally or anything because there’s no laws for polycules.” He gave a dorky chuckle.

“Oh my god, Brian,” I groaned. “Ignore him. We love you, Gem, and each other. And we want to make this thing permanent. In whatever way you deem appropriate.”

“How was that better?” Brian grumped.

But Gemma was beaming at us, laughing, and she pulled us both into a big hug. “Of course, yes! I love you both, and this is beyond perfect!”

And as we wrapped our arms around her, everything felt truly, completely right.
