Rue laughs. “I love how nerdy you are.”

Dom clears his throat. “Are you two done with... whatever this is?” He gestures between us, and I can see his frustrated confusion, as he only caught half of the conversation.

I straighten and take a step, nearly falling over from how wobbly I am. Pulses of aftershocks flow through my clit. Fucking bastard.

“Look,” I breathe through the sensations. “As much as I would love watching Rue tear your head off for ordering to kill Styx, I’mtired.I know we’re on different teams, and I have no idea what the dynamic here is yet, but can we just... go our separate ways?”

Dom spears me with a glare. “No.”

Stubborn dick.

“Then we will have to work together.” I hate saying those words more than anyone. I don’t trust Dom. Yeah, saved my life, but he tried to kill Styx. That’s an offense I can’t forgive.

“No.”

A growl rumbles from my throat, and I stomp forward, putting myself between the two infuriating males. “Look, Lizard Boy, I don’t give a fuck what you say. They stay with me.”

His eyes narrow into thin slits. “They’re responsible for the death of half of my team. I don’t trust them. No. You, me, and witch-boy over here are leaving. We won’t kill them, but we are leaving. Now.”

My teeth grind together in annoyance. Who the fuck died and made him the boss of me? He’s delusional if he thinks he can tell me what the fuck to do.

“Those banshee bitches had it coming the moment they attacked my omega.” My hand tightens on the hilt of my sword. “So forgive me if I’m not mourning their much-deserved deaths. In fact, I should kill you now for threatening him in the first place.”

I can’t hold my ire in any longer. It seems it doesn’t matter how smart I want to be in this fucked-up place. It thrives on violence and not intelligence, or at least, Dom does. He doesn’t give a fuck who these men are to me. He just sees a uniform that doesn’t match his and will kill because that’s what Dr. Hyde wants us to do.

Why? Who the fuck knows.

But I’ll be fuckingdamnedif I fall prey to him again.

“You can try,” Dom whispers, malice shining in his eyes.

The presence of my Lady is a gentle thing in the breeze. And it’s my only warning before Dom attacks.

Rue shouts and shoves me to the side before Dom’s claws can rake across me. I topple to the side, finding my footing, as a clash of bodies thump together in a trembling quake.

I turn with a cry. Snarls and claws fly, skin is shredded, blood sprays in a geyser. Wings flap, and then they’re airborne.

“Fuck!”

My curse is lost to the heavy sound of their wingbeats. They become a clashing blur in the sky, colliding, fighting. I feel helpless as I watch. They dive back to the earth, hitting the ground. Dom gains the upper hand somehow, knocking Rue back with a kick to the chest.

My vampire falls to his back and screams as his wing snaps at an odd angle beneath him. I feel that pain spear through my own back. It’s agonizing, leaving me gasping.

Dom prowls towards Rue, his movements predatory, laced with triumph.

My Lady’s scent permeates my senses.

I’m moving before anyone dares to try and stop me. My sword slashes in a clean sweep, taking off one of Dom’s wings in a single blow. Blood sprays. It coats my blade nicely.

He drops to his knees on a scream, and I take the same prowling stance he did as I circle around to face him.

“A wing for a wing, motherfucker.”

And then my sword kisses through his chest. I know the exact moment his life leaves his body, because the light leaves his eyes, and the scent of my Lady fades, as if she took him to her afterlife.

My sword glows and hums with satisfaction as I pull it from his body with a slicking sound. The body falls to the earth, and I don’t give the bastard another moment of my time because I’m sheathing my sword and going over to Rue.

My knees hit the ground as I loom over him.
