She slews so many words at me, and I know which ones impact me the most.

“You—you lit Gavin’s dick on fire?”

She beams. “Yes! You should’ve heard him squeal. Little cheating rat bastard.”

“I’m... happy for you.”

“Thanks! Take back my power and all that, yeah?”

“Sure.”

Kira pulls away, and her reptilian gaze flickers over my men. “Oh, ho, ho, you all look cozy. This is a nice place. We’re going to be roomies again. Just like old times, eh?”

She steps deeper into the little metal hut and looks around, as if there’s ample space enough for that. For all of us to just cozy together in our little dome of a house.

“While I’m glad to see you, Kira, I still don’t know who the fuck this bitch is.” I point my sword in the sensual woman’s direction, who just stands there, taking in the scene like she’s watching a fucking telenovela.

Except there’s no Fabio here to give her orgasms for days in her shower and with a vibrator later tonight. Just me and Damios, who will reap her soul out through her hoo-ha if she keeps fucking staring at Sia like she wants to eat him alive.

“This is Amrose. Oooo, she’s a skinwalker. So interesting,” Kira chirps with a small smile.

The smile doesn’t help, though.

“Eyes over here, bitch.”

She looks all too amused, given the situation. “Rue, Styx, I am hurt you didn’t tell your little lover about me. After all we’ve been through? Tsk-tsk.” Her fingers flick, and I catch a glimpse of long, black claws instead of fingernails.

“Somebody better start talking before I start reaping.” My patience is hanging on by a thread. Really, it’s been a hard fucking week, and this is the cherry on top of a shit cake.

“Amrose was on our team,chère,” Rue says. His voice is cautious, and I smirk internally at that. It’s sweet how he thinks I’m about to go off and start chopping body parts.

Knows me so well. I’m touched.

“I also saved your little wolf’s life from a particularly nasty slug shifter hybrid.”

I don’t know what horrifies me more out of that whole sentence. The fact that Styx’s life was in danger or the words “slug shifter hybrid.” Oh, Lady of Death, I throw up a bit in my mouth at the thought of what it must look like.

“That doesn’t explain why you’re here now.”

She pierces me with an intense stare. “They are my teammates, and I like them. What other reason could there be?”

Oh, I don’t know, she could be here to murder us in our sleep. Just a thought. One I send loudly down my bond with Rue and Styx.

Quiet greets me.

Oh, now you choose to shut your mouth?

“We can trust Amrose,” Rue declares. “For now.”

And it’s those two words that sound very ominous, that remind me what exactly lurks under my sarcastic vampire’s skin. Danger, the sweet promise of violence and death. A shiver rakes down my spine, and I swear I feel my Lady’s presence, smell her around us, the scent sharp like a valley of orchids.

One look at Sia tells me he feels it, too.

“Fine,” I concede, sheathing my sword again. The only reason I’m deciding to trust her is because my Lady was here, and because she promised death should anything go wrong. That’s enough to comfort me.

Because when someone promises death? My Lady delivers.

“But keep eye-fucking my men, and I will gouge your eyeballs out.” Before she can reply, I whirl and turn to look at Styx. “Ready to get this off my damn back?”
