“I did.”
“How did you manage this?”
“Sam’s agent is Kara’s cousin. He mentioned how he organized a private shopping session for Dakota for her birthday a while back, and I thought that was a cool idea. And I overheard you and Dakota talking a while ago about how you both like Kara’s designs when we were all hanging out at Spanky’s. I thought you might like it too.”
Her smile turns warm as she looks at me. “You did this for me.” She sounds almost bewildered
I nod.
Emotion flashes in her big, gray-blue eyes. She shakes her head. “No one’s ever done something this thoughtful for me,” she says.
Determination surges through me. She deserves this. She deserves to feel special. And I like being the guy who makes her feel that way. I like surprising her. I like seeing her happy. I want to make her happy all the time.
My chest flickers with an emotion I don’t recognize.
“This is amazing, Ryker. Thank you.”
I step forward and press a soft kiss to her forehead. “It’s my pleasure. You ready to try on some dresses?”
Chapter 40
Maddy
I’m grinning so wide, my cheeks hurt as I slip on the black satin evening gown.
I can’t believe this is my life right now. I’m trying on designer gowns during a private shopping appointment at my favorite fashion designer’s new boutique.
All because of Ryker.
I feel like the heroine in a romance novel being doted on by her rich boyfriend.
Except he’s not my boyfriend.
A pang of disappointment zooms through me, catching me off guard. I ignore it and focus on enjoying the moment.
When I step out of the dressing room, Ryker’s brow hits his hairline.
“Whoa…”
My tummy flips at the expression on his face.
I bite back a giddy smile. “What do you think?”
“I think…Holy shit, you look incredible.”
I grin and do a spin. “This is really beautiful.”
“Youare beautiful.”
My face heats as I take in the fiery look in his eyes.
“Do you like it?” he asks.
I nod. “But I wanna try on more.”
I go back into the dressing room and try on a slinky silver gown that plunges low in the front.
When I walk back out, Ryker’s gaze falls to my chest. His eyes bulge out of his head.
