My heart stops, sweat drips down my forehead, and all I can hear is a loop of me butchering her parent’s language.

What if she says no?

What if she hated the speech?

What if she doesn’t like the ring?

I fumble into my pocket and pull out the black box.

I open it and display the engagement ring I selected for her.

It’s a gold ring with a large marquise diamond in the center. Surrounding the main diamond are baguettes and round diamonds.
