“Then leave me to rot in the cell.” I would rather be in here alone forever than dealing with you.”
Laughing, he heads for the door. “That can be arranged.”
It slams shut, leaving me with only my thoughts and my regrets.
If I could go back in time and never sleep with him, I don’t think I would, but I would give my past self a hard shake.
Maybe make her see the mess she’s gotten us into, even if I’d still revel in those amazing orgasms.
Chapter Ten
ZOE
Now what? It’s been hours, I have no weapon, and my bathroom breaks have been cut in half, or at least it feels like it.
If he showed his face, I could beat the hell out of Aiden right now, but what good would that do? Make my hands hurt?
Or he kills me. Whichever comes first.
I take a deep breath and sit up, leaning back against the stone wall.
The door swings open, and Gia stands in the doorway, her expression a mix of disgust and disappointment. She rolls her bottom lip into her mouth before letting out a deep breath.
“What are you doing here?” I look down at the inside of my thigh where the shallow cut is already starting to close over. “You’re going to get yourself in trouble. You should get out of here before he finds out you were down here.”
“Yeah, well, I’m down here.” Gia leans against the doorframe before reaching outside the door. She tosses a pile of clothing at me. “You should get out of here. Someone is going to be lookingfor you soon, and I’m going to be in deep shit for letting you out, so I’d like to get over that as soon as possible.”
I get up and grab the clothing from the ground, stripping off what I’m wearing and changing it for the fresh underwear, leggings, and massive black sweatshirt she gave me. “Did you cut the camera?”
“Of course.” The corner of her mouth twitches. “I know you like to think that I can’t take care of myself, but I’ve been doing that for years.”
“Why are you doing this?”
“Because, unlike you, I like to believe that there’s a world where things could be good between you and me again, which means that I’m going to let you out, piss off the rest of my family, and hope that Royce is enough to keep Aiden from killing me.”
“You really think he’d kill you?”
Gia nods and steps to the side. “I do. Something isn’t quite right with him. It’s like there’s been a snap. The others say that he hasn’t been the same since what Noah did to him, which is understandable.”
“You know you’re telling me too much right now, right?” I flip up the hood, tucking my hair in the back of it.
“I didn’t tell you anything that you didn’t already know.” She presses her lips together as I pass her. “You should keep the hood up until you’re off the property at the very least. Summer and Jade dress like that to sneak out all the time. As long as you keep your head down, the guards won’t think much about you walking by them.”
My eyebrows knit together. “They don’t try to stop them?”
“Last time they did, someone had to have surgery on their nuts, so most of the guards aren’t willing to risk it when it comes to those two, and as long as their hidden detail picks up on them, nobody worries.”
I nod, trying to remember what she’s telling me. It’s probably not going to be useful in the long run, but snatching Summer or Jade off the street could be a good way to get back at Aiden for all he’s put me through over the last few months.
After a moment, I pull her into a tight hug. “Stay safe.”
I wish I could take her with me. I would take her and Bianca, and we would run back home. Back where I can keep them safe.
But she won’t leave with me, and we both know it.
When she hugs me back, threatening to squeeze the life out of me, I suck in a sharp breath.
I don’t know when I’m going to see her next. I don’t know if I’m going to be alive to see her again.
