“If anyone, not just you, but if anyone wrongs me, I will get even. Starr and the guys from the club call it Lucifer’s revenge. I call it justice. I will not do anything illegal, but I will make sure you pay for your actions.”
“Like that guy who tried to sell your land? And the woman who stole from you?”
“Exactly. I’m not saying this to be a bastard, but I don’t believe that anyone should take advantage of someone else without paying the piper.”
“I totally understand.” She nodded and they both looked up when the barista approached them.
“Excuse me,” she said hesitantly.
“Yes?” Luc asked.
“We’re about to close in fifteen minutes. I was wondering if you were done with your coffee.”
Luc and Lilith looked at each other in shock, looked at their watches then back at the barista.
“We’ve been here for four hours?”
Yes.”
“Holy shit,” Luc said as he drained his coffee, and watched as Lilith did the same. “We’re sorry, we lost track of time.”
“Don’t worry about it. I thought you would want to know that we’re closing.”
“Thank you,” Lilith said as she stood, and because she still had time, she went to the ladies’ room. When she returned she found Luc standing at the entrance and she went to meet him. Out on the sidewalk they looked at each other with a grin.
“Would you like to go someplace for dinner?”
“I would, but unfortunately, I think I should get home. I have to get ready for work in the morning.”
“I understand,” Luc said with a nod and with his hand on the small of her back, he escorted her to the parking lot and waited for her to lead the way to her vehicle. She unlocked it, and turned to him.
“I don’t go into work until two on Thursday, could you call your friend and tell him I’ll be in around ten.” At his frown, she giggled. “Motorcycle gear.”
“Oh, yeah, I can do that.” He nodded, then put his hands on her hips, and leaned in to kiss her. It was several minutes before they broke apart. With his forehead on hers, he sighed heavily.
“Until next Sunday.”
“What time?”
“Can I call you during the week?”
“Yes, but not before nine, The library closed at eight, but by the time I get home, changed and get something to eat, it’s after nine.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” He kissed her again, then stepped back. He stood there in the parking lot until she pulled away, then with a gigantic grin on his face, he went back to his truck and headed out to the bar. On the way, he used the feature in his truck to call Gator to tell him about Thursday. He found himself whistling after he hung up with his friend.
Chapter 11
When Lilith made it to work on Thursday, she had thirty minutes to spare. With a smile on her face, she put her lunch away, and clocked in. She walked out to the front and frowned when she saw Megan behind the desk.
“Meg, I thought you had today off.”
“I did, but Sally asked if I could cover for her. She said she wasn’t feeling well and wanted to know if I could cover for her. She told me to tell you that she would use her PTO time for today.”
“Okay,” Lilith replied, and shook her head. Sally had been avoiding her since that day in the restaurant, and as much as Lilith wanted to shake some sense into the other woman, there was nothing she could do if she was being avoided. After seeing that everything was under control, she went to her office and did her daily tasks, then had the duty to do her least favorite job of the entire week. Scheduling time for the employees for the next two weeks.
After marking Sally’s time card for PTO, she accessed her records and shook her head. Sally should have worked eight hours that day, and she was going to be extremely upset when she realized that she would be paid for only four hours today. That was all the time she had coming to her. No more PTO, vacation, or sick days were available. Not until she started her new year of employment in three months. There was nothing Lilith could do about it, and made the schedule like she always did, taking into consideration the time-off requests turned in and approved. Three hours later, she hung up the schedule for the next two weeks, and went back out to help Meg at the front desk. The entire day was boring and she found herself looking off into space, remembering the purchases she had made earlierthat day, with a sappy smile on her face. By the time eight o’clock came, she was more than happy to lock the doors and clean up. When she went out to her car, she gave a startled sound when she saw a man peel himself off her car. When she saw his hands go up in surrender, she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Lucius.”
