“Maybe, I don’t know.”
“Merril Wilson.”
“That fucking asshole? Last I heard he was dead. I hope he’s burning in hell now.” She glanced at the files and shook her head. “Is that what all this is?”
“Yes, it’s the case files against Wilson.”
“Who’s that?” Lucius asked quietly. He sat back when Lilith jumped to her feet to pace. She pointed to the table and while looking between the three men took the next thirty minutes to tell them about her part in the case against Merril Wilson.
“Holy shit,” Lucius said when she sat back down and drank half a bottle of water after her rant. He looked at Fred and Thomas. “What does Wilson have to do with Quinn?”
Fred scrubbed his face after learning Lilith’s involvement in the old case, and looked at his boss. It was Thomas that turned to Lilith with an explanation.
“First, thank you for telling us what happened. I know you don’t know this, but it might be important now.”
“What?” Both Lilith and Luc asked.
“After Wesley was released from the hospital, he was taken to the jail. However, Paul’s boss became concerned, and put him on suicide watch.”
“Who’s Paul?” Lilith looked around in confusion.
“Bandit,” Luc said.
She wrinkled her nose at him. “That’s his real name?”
“Yeah,” Luc chuckled and turned back to Thomas. “Please continue.”
“Anyway, Paul’s boss didn’t like how Wesley was reacting, so he called in the department shrink. After talking for only fifteen minutes, they took him back to the hospital and had a psych evaluation done on him. He was immediately admitted to the psych ward at the hospital. He spent six weeks there, and was released back to police custody.”
“Why?” Lilith asked in shock.
“The only thing we were told was that he summoned the devil to take the evil away, and he swore that Lucifer himself arrived and took Lilith away from him. He realized that he was an all-powerful god that could summon demons and started trying to summon him again.”
Lilith looked at Lucius, and he couldn’t hold in his laugh. With his arm cradling his stomach he burst out laughing. It was Lilith who retrieved his phone from his pocket and accessed the video.
“I don’t know if the police gave you a copy of this yet, but this is what happened when Lucius and the others found me after being kidnapped.” She moved the phone forward and watched as the two high powered lawyers watched the video four times before they looked up and it was Fred who asked,
“How?”
“Remember at Brenda’s trial where I said she was invited to be on Starr’s team?”
“Yes, but what does that have to do with anything?”
“That team was to do the makeup for me, Bandit, Wolf, and Vampire. Kelsey Warner and Matt Rider did the other characters. It was a class Professor Tiggs offered at the college. Nothing to do with any degree program, just something to offer the students for fun. Actually, it’s not just for students either, it’s for anyone who wants to learn about this stuff. Their final grade was to come up with something for Halloween. They had over seven months to plan. Starr came up with all of those designs, but because my makeup alone took roughly five hours to do, she only did four, while Kelsey and Matt did the others. Brenda was supposed to be on that team, but because of her lies, and what she tried to pull, I told Starr, who told her professor, who in turn kicked Brenda off the team.”
“Ah, that was the connection. Okay, so he drew a pentagram on Lilith’s stomach, then summoned Lucifer and you showed up dressed like him.”
“Yes, but, I don’t know if this is relevant or not, but my club name is Lucifer, because my real name is Lucius, the club members automatically started calling me Lucifer. It was Starr’s idea to do us up based on our club names.”
“Got it,” Fred said, and they watched the video one last time. He pushed the phone back, and shook his head. “This case is a nightmare. What I’m about to say stays in this room, but Wesley Quinn is a wack job. After seeing the video that you just showed me, I’ll get with Paul to see if he has any more in evidence, but I believe seeing you appear at Lilith’s feet after he ‘summoned’ the devil, broke Wesley. The doctors that treated him in the psych ward agree with me. I know his lawyer is going to go for a mental plea. This office agrees, but we’re going to push to get him declared insane and sent to a state mental hospital, but it is also a prison for the criminally insane.”
“Okay,” Lilith said with a scowl that did Luc proud. “But what does all this have to do with Merril Wilson?”
Again, Fred scrubbed his face as he rose and went over to grab the pot of coffee to refill their mugs. He sat back down and pointed to the stacks of files. “We’ll have to go through everything, but without knowing where to look, I can’t lay my hand on the proper folder. I’m not putting you off, I’m trying to understand it in my head.”
“What Fred’s not saying is that Wesley Quinn, in one of his ramblings at the psych ward informed his doctor,” he paused and grabbed a pad of paper, flipped through the pages, and read what was written there. “The Night Demon, Lilith, Adam’s first wife, swooped in, and spread her evil lies about my father, causing him to be sent to jail, based on her lies. I had her in my grasp when Lucifer himself came and snatched her from me. Mark my words, this Night Demon will pay for all the evil she’s done to me and my family.”
“Wilson is his father? But the girls I saw in his home when I started my investigation didn’t have any children, and if one of them gave birth to Wesley, he would only be fifteen or sixteen, not in his thirties.”
