Sasha: Cordelia gets very much in her head about things. He’ll need to!
Brenda: He’s taking his time.
Sasha: How do you even know those lunches are for my daughter?
Brenda: The ladies at The Pink Garage shared a picture of it.
Sasha: Well, I suppose that’s progress. Have they met up at all?
Brenda: Viking hasn’t invited her back to the house yet.
Sasha: Maybe they’re meeting secretly.
Brenda: I would have heard it, Sasha. Renthrow would need a babysitter.
Sasha: Right, right.
Brenda: But he’s with Gordie from the moment she’s finished school until she goes to sleep at night.
Sasha: Well, maybe they meet for lunch?
Brenda: I thought the same so I went to the stadium pretending to have an errand. Viking was there with the trainees. I heard he eats with them too.
Sasha: Oh dear. Why the sudden standstill?
Brenda: It’s like they’re determined to make this difficult when it should be easy.
Sasha: They’re both so stubborn.
Brenda: When are you coming to town so we can proceed with the second plan?
Sasha: Tonight. I’ll be ready.
Brenda: So will I.
Sasha: :D
Brenda: With how hard we’re working, they better get married and have lots of grandkids fast.
Sasha: Amen to that!
Chapter Forty-Seven
Renthrow
“Take the next left,” Mom instructs, showing me with her finger. “Oh, it’s right up ahead. Slow down at the gate.”
I notice a camera swerving to take me in as I roll to a stop. A moment later, the massive, wrought-iron gates swing open.
“Cool,” Gordie says from the backseat.
“Creepy,” I say under my breath.
“What was that?” Mom calls.
“Nothing.” Shifting the car out of park, I roll down the concrete driveway.
The road leads to a massive house with a wraparound porch, an expansive garden, and a fountain in the center. If I’d guess, this acreage is twice the size of McLanely’s—though to be fair, McLanely’s is closer to Lucky Falls.
