It’s still not enough.
I wrap an arm around his stomach, trying to find a comfortable place on his hard, chiseled body. Why is he entirely made of muscle? I’m starting to think I should have stuck with my dadbod preferences.
Renthrow’s entire chest rumbles with quiet laughter. “If you want to get any closer, Cordelia, you might have to sit in my lap.”
“You think I wouldn’t?” I murmur.
He presses a kiss against my forehead. “Don’t. I won’t be able to control myself if you do that right now, and you’re too tired for more necking.”
“Necking?”
He sounds embarrassed. “Do people not say that anymore?”
“I’ve never heard it before. What is it?”
“Apparently, an outdated way to say kissing.”
I fight to keep up with the conversation. “Is it…kissing the neck specifically?”
“Among other places.”
I smile sleepily. “I like the sound of that.”
“Do you?”
“You have very scrumptious lips.”
I hear his quick intake of breath. “You’re half-conscious and flirting with me. Where’d you learn how to do that?”
“I’m not flirting. We’re having a conversation about the English language.”
He laughs again, and I burrow in close, so I can absorb every one of those vibrations coming from his chest.
“Where else do you want to kiss me?” I wonder.
Renthrow pinches my cheek. “Ease up, sweetheart. You’re not even in your right mind right now, so don’t push me.”
I pull his hand off my cheek and hold it against my mouth. Pressing a little kiss there, I murmur, “Let’s do the necking thing next time.”
Renthrow groans and wraps me in his arms, smothering me against his body. It’s the last thing I register before I fall completely asleep.
Chapter Fifty-Six
Cordelia
Sunlight wakes me up the next morning. I shift my head, groaning as my neck cricks in response.
Where am I?
I’m not in my bed.
I’m notona bed of any kind.
An unfamiliar living room comes into focus. Suddenly, I remember coming over to Renthrow’s last night, and then I hear the soft sound of someone breathing.
Renthrow’s handsome face is above me, his mouth slightly parted. My jaw drops in shock. What am I still doing here? I was only supposed to nap for one hour.
Oh my gosh. I spent the night at Renthrow’s. What if Gordie sees us?
