‘Sounds like Violet.’

‘So, when are you reopening?’

‘The cats arrive next week and we’re opening the week after, so you’ll have to come along.’

‘You can count on it.’ Jess paused for a second. ‘You know…’ she continued, slowly, ‘I’m at a bit of a loose end these next few weeks, if you’re looking for a bit of artwork at the café, how about I help you out?’

‘Seriously? That would be amazing!’

‘I don’t need paying; I’m looking for projects to add to my portfolio and the café would be perfect.’

‘I’m definitely paying you, Jess. Just let me know what the going rate is, send me an invoice and I’ll sort it.’

‘If you’re sure?’

‘I am.’

‘I’ll be grateful for an excuse to escape from the shop for a while, if I’m honest. Mum won’t be able to say no if I tell her it’s for my portfolio,’ said Jess, tapping her nose.

‘I like the way you think,’ said Tori.

‘How about a mural for the back wall?’

‘Sounds great.’

‘I can sketch out some designs this evening and head over tomorrow to show you first, before I make a start, if that works for you?’ said Jess.

‘That would be wonderful. Thank you!’

‘Do you need any help with logos and stuff?’

‘Definitely. It’s on my to-do list but I’ve not made a start yet,’ said Tori.

‘What do you need? Web design, social accounts, that kind of thing?’

‘All of the above!’ laughed Tori.

‘Not a problem – I can help with all that. Let’s chat properly tomorrow – would eleven o’clock work?’

‘That’s fine. You’re a star, thanks, Jess.’

‘Happy to help. Like I said, if it gets me away from manning the till, I’m all in,’ Jess laughed.

‘Well, I owe you.’

‘Listen, Mum told me about what happened with you and Ryan. How are you doing?’

‘Oh, that,’ said Tori, waving her hand dismissively. ‘I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.’

‘No, but it still sucks, though.’

‘True. I’ll get over it, I guess. I’ve got the café to keep me busy at least.’

‘Definitely. Throwing yourself into something new is great distraction therapy. Personally, I’d rather go for throwing myself at someonenew, but whatever works for you.’

‘You don’t change, do you, Jess?’ said Tori, laughing. ‘I’m guessing you’ve still not found a man who can tempt you into a relationship?’

‘No way! Being single is way too much fun.’
