When I finally look up, her eyes are wide, lips parted, her hair wild around her face.
“You’re so goddamn beautiful,” I tell her.
She leans down and kisses me, and I push myself up slowly, our kiss never breaking. She kisses me with a hunger that tells me she’s not done with me yet, and I couldn’t be happier about that. I never want this to end.
Somewhere along the way though, sense takes over and I know I should put the brakes on. I don’t want her to wake up in the morning regretting this, regrettingme, and I’m afraid if we go any further, she will.
“You okay?” I ask, brushing my fingers down her side.
“Yes,” she says.
Her hands reach behind my neck and she stands on her tiptoes, kissing me again.
Then she brushes against my ear.
“But I want to make you feel good too,” she whispers.
“Trust me, you do,” I say, taking a step back.
She pouts and I grin.
“How about I see you to your room?” I say, wanting to prolong this night.
I’m afraid that when we wake up in the morning, we’ll be back to sparring again.
She nods, her smile seductive as she tugs me into the house. When we walk inside, Kevin’s still asleep in his little bed, and Goldie whispers, “‘Night, Kevin.”
That name never fails to make me smile and now is no different.
When we reach her room, she turns and pulls me by the collar, tugging me inside. This side of Goldie is almost more than I can take. She kisses me and I kiss her back, but I stop when she tries to pull off my shirt.
“You drive me crazy,” I murmur against her collarbone.
“Good,“ she says, arching into me.
I close my eyes tight, my restraint hanging by a thread.
“Goldie, I want nothing more than to sink inside you and never leave, but I want you to be fully sober when I do.”
“I’m fully sober,” she argues.
I smile against her skin. “Maybe I’m not because I’ve clearly lost my mind, stopping here.”
I bend slightly and pick her up, and her faint smile makes my chest ache. I lay her carefully on the bed and pull the covers up to her neck.
“Are you a gentleman in disguise?” She yawns and stretches. “You’ve been keeping this under wraps, Lombardi.”
“I won’t tell anyone if you won’t.” My voice is gruff and she gives me a wide smile.
I stare at her, feeling the bottom of my stomach dropping out again.Fuck me.When have Ievergotten butterflies or felt weak in the knees over a woman? Or anything else for that matter. Never goddamn ever.
Kevin pops in the doorway, saving me from doing something foolish, and when he runs toward me, I pick him up, setting him next to her. She turns on her side and he twirlsaround a few times before nestling against her chest. He lets out a huge, contented sigh.
“I know, little guy. You’re in the perfect spot, aren’t you?”
I’d give anything to be that fucking dog right now.
“Night, Goldie Whitman.”
