“If anybody can handle it,” said Alex, “she can. She’s a tough lady.”
“She ain’t all that tough,” said Kari. “She loves his ass and is putting up with it. But it’s hard on her, trust and believe. The only reason she hasn’t bounced on his ass is because she figure he’s worth it.”
Alex looked at Kari. “He is a very attractive man, isn’t he?”
Kari smiled. “Let’s put it this way: He could give Tommy Gabrini a run for his money.”
“I wouldn’t go that far,” Alex said to her.
“I would. And I’m a woman so I know.”
Alex smiled. “I guess you’re right. But as tough as Savannah appears, she’s sweet too.”
Kari nodded. “I agree.”
“I hope he doesn’t break her heart.”
Kari looked at Alex. “Why would you even think something like that?”
But Alex didn’t say why, and Kari didn’t push it.
“Turn over,” he said to her as he laid on his side facing her.
Kari decided to play with him. “Turn over? To do what?”
“You know what.”
She motioned as if she was clutching her pearls. “In astranger’shouse?”
“He’s not a stranger. He’s my brother.”
“Oh he’s your brother now?”
Alex smiled. “Just turn your ass over.”
Kari smiled, too, as she turned her back to his front.
And after fingering her for several minutes, priming that pump he couldn’t wait to smash, he entered her from behind.
CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
Savannah had taken a long tub bath, had crawled into Marcellus’s bed, and had fallen asleep. By the time she woke up, she could hear the shower running. Was that him? She assumed it was. She hoped it was! Because she looked at her phone on the nightstand. It had been nearly two hours since he took Natalia to bed.
She knew she was being dramatic by thinking of it that way, but how else could she think of it? The woman was a mess, understandably, and she needed somebody to put her to bed. But why did it have to be Marcellus? Why couldn’t it have been Freddy, her own son and Kalayna’s full, not half, brother?
But it was what it was. She turned onto her back and knew she had to address it. She hated to have to do it now, but if she let him get away with placating his baby mamas on every turn, their relationship was going to get compromised. Natalia especially would see to it.
When the shower was turned off, Marcellus came naked into the bedroom drying off. When he saw that Savannah was awake, he was pleased. He needed her. “Hey.”
“How’s Natalia?”
“She finally went to sleep. Then Fredrick took over.”
Savannah decided to go there. “She’s not going to be too happy to wake up and not see your pretty face beside her.”
“She doesn’t give a damn about who’s beside her,” he said, “she wants her daughter back home. And guess what? So do I.”
Savannah looked at him. If he expected her to apologize for what he seemed to think was her insensitivity, he was wasting his time. “I know she wants her daughter back,” she said to him in a firm voice, “and I also know she wants you. Now if you expect me to ignore that fact and pretend I’m not seeing what I’m seeing, you got the wrong one.”
