At first he moved up to her, staring into her eyes, fondling her breasts, squeezing her ass. All of which made her heart start beating faster. But when he leaned down and kissed her, everything changed. It felt so good to her, and she tasted so wonderful to him, that they both lost it.
He lifted her into his arms, slammed his back against the shower wall for leverage, and then he lifted her higher. And he feasted between her legs, which made him even hungrier for her.
When she was wet and ready, he pulled her down slightly, placed her back against the shower wall with her still in his arms, and entered her.
It was an entry that Savannah was powerless to stop. Because she was as hungry as he was. It was hard and it was fast and she was gasping at his bigness. But she was all-in too.
They were making love in that shower as if they’d never made love with anybody before. It was desperation mixed with trepidation mixed with concern and worry. But all of those emotions seemed to make them pound harder. They were in grief and they were in lust and they were pounding out both. The slapping sounds against the waterfall could be heard like screams in a muted voice. It was coming out, and coming out hard, but they knew it would land in an empty space.
That was why Marcellus slowed it up. Because despite all of that baggage, the feeling was too good to pound out and dismiss. He’d rarely felt that way in his life. This, despite it all, was one of those times. And he wrapped her in his arms and needed to savor it.
He kissed her as he did her. And she felt that kiss to the depths of her being. Slowing down raced up their heartbeats. Slowing down made them come down from that mountain of pain. Slowing down made themfeeleach other more than just doing each other.
And they needed more. More than they could even verbalize if their lives depended on it.
That was why Marcellus carried Savannah to his bed, wet though they both still were, and they made long, passionate love on those silk sheets.
For more than half an hour, they made love. He kissed her mouth, her neck, her breasts, and back into her mouth again. It was passion on top of passion and they loved it. They’d never had it so good.
And when they came, they came together. Not one after the other one the way they both were accustomed to, but at exactly the same time. They stared into each other’s eyes as they came. They moaned and groaned as they came.
It was beautiful.
It was like climbing Mount Everest. But going that high always meant a hard fall back to earth.
And when they crashed back down, they felt the weight of that crash all over again: Of Niko. Of all those aviation disasters. Of her unemployment.
But even with all of that, they still felt the sensations of that climb. It was worth it to both of them. It was worth the climb.
Marcellus didn’t want to leave the warmth of her narrow passage, but he eased his way out of her and then laid on his back. They both were more sweat-filled than wet, and they both were attempting to slow their hyperventilation. But they weren’t complaining.
“The best,” he found himself saying to her. “Simply the best.”
Savannah smiled but could not speak. Her heart was still hammering. She’d never climbed that high. It took some serious coming down from. And she was still coming down.
They knew their exhilaration was going to be short-lived. They knew they had to shower again,to clean each other off of each other, and face the music again. It was as if they were treading water and getting nowhere. But it was still worth the tread.
Savannah was so overwhelmed with the feelings she was feeling toward that man, feelings she’d never felt before, that she turned her body back into his arms as if she was throwing herself to him.
He gladly caught her. Because his sense of proportionality was off too. She did something for him that none of those ladies he fooled with had ever been able to do for him: She made him feel as if he was twenty years younger. Still in his prime. Just getting ready to set the world on fire.
She gave him hope again.
He pulled her on top of him, wrapped his big arms around her small body, and kissed her so long and lovingly that before they knew it he was entering her once again.
It wasn’t that they didn’t care about Niko and what was happening all around them. They cared deeply about all of it.But it was as if they were just discovering that they, no matter how much they hadn’t planned on any such thing, was beginning to discover how much they cared about each other too. And for both of them, it was the discovery of their lives.
They weren’t the kind of people to quickly view anything from the prism of love. Love was a hard word to banter about. But if it walked like, talked like, and seemed like, then it just might be like.
Or something so remarkably similar that it was indistinguishable.
They didn’t discuss it. It was too raw and too new and too alarming in so many ways that they decided it was best left unsaid.
After they came again, they didn’t linger again. They got out of bed and showered together. Savannah was shocked to find her entire wardrobe in Marcellus’s bedroom. And when he told her how it got there, she was equally shocked. But pleased that he would do all of that for her.
But the thought that she was about to go downstairs and face his baby mamas, did give her pause. And instead of dressing down the way she usually did, she dressed up, the way she felt the moment called for. She wore a form-fitting little red dress and stiletto-high heels that brought out beautifully her dark skin. And that matched Marcellus’s dark blue suit and tie perfectly.
But as they got on the elevator, her heart began to hammer so much so that he asked if she was okay.
