“Vanna, don’t you dare shut down on me. Who was it?”
Then Savannah saw Marcellus coming out of the cockpit and heading her way. Which she was pleased to see on manylevels. Including using it as an excuse to get off of the phone with Tyla. “Listen, I’ll talk to you later. Gotta go,” she said, and ended the call even as Tyla was asking more questions. Then she put her phone on what it should have been on all along: airplane mode.
But she noticed how Marcellus seemed to be looking at her with some trepidation. Even suspiciously. “Everything alright?” she asked him.
“Who were you talking to?”
“Me?”
Marcellus wasn’t going to respond to that. It went without saying that he meant her.
“Just Tyla. She’s my best friend.”
“I didn’t know you had a best friend.”
“Everybody has a best friend. At least most people. Don’t you?”
Marcellus didn’t respond to that either. He’d never really had a true friend in his life, let alone a best one. He’d had associates and acquaintances, but never true friends. “What did she want?”
“She was concerned about me. I didn’t return her text messages.”
“What did you tell her?”
“Nothing much. You came along and I told her I’d call her back later.”
That look in his eyes made it clear to Savannah that he suspected she had said more than what she was admitting to, but he was willing to overlook it for now. He, instead, began to look down the length of her body as if he was assessing her. She still wore her bodycon, form-fitting red dress, and from the way he was looking at that dress and her crossed legs she could tell he was aroused. When she looked down the length of him, she could see it too.
“Come with me,” he said and began walking to the middle of the plane. She grabbed her phone and got up without hesitation, following him. She didn’t know why he had that effect on her, but he did. Whenever he gave a command for her to come to him or follow him, she did so without any reservations. It was as if being with him was the point for her.
He opened the door to what turned out to be a huge master bedroom. Once she walked across the threshold, he began closing and locking the door.
But she was too busy in awe of the room itself to notice it. “A whole bedroom on a plane?” She could not believe it. “Really?”
He smiled. “It’s not that unusual, Savannah. Not on private planes of this size.”
“It’s unusual in my world.”
Marcellus hesitated as he locked the door. And then he looked at her. “You’re in my world now. Where you’re going to stay.”
He said it as if it was a natural fact when she knew it was no such thing. They hadn’t even had a conversation to that effect. She looked at him with a look of piqued curiosity. She didn’t like ambiguity. She liked in your face straight talk. “What do you mean?”
Marcellus stared at her too. He wasn’t sure if it was the time or place, but given the uncertainties that surrounded every aspect of his life lately, would there ever be a right time or right place? He moved into her personal space, placed his hands on her arms, and latched on with unblinking eye contact.
Besides, it was self-evident to him that she was the one. From the moment he first met her eight years ago until that moment on his plane, he knew there was nobody like her. There was no going back. “From here on out,” he said to her, “you’re with me.”
That sounded good. Even great. But Savannah needed more. “What do you mean?”
“I mean,” he said, moving her even closer against him, “that from this day for the rest of our lives we are together. You’re my lady. I’m your man.”
Savannah’s heart soared. It felt like a dream come true! But it still felt murky to her. She knew about his exploits with females. Niko used to tell her about them often as he declared himself just like his father in that department. He always addedin that departmentas if his life was compartmentalized and all the bad stuff he did was his father’s fault. “I’m your one and only lady, or one of many ladies?” she felt a need to ask him.
Marcellus was horny as hell. His hooded eyelids told her so even as his aroused penis pressed against her thigh told it too. “What do you think?” he asked her in a heavier voice.
But Savannah was shaking her head. “I need an answer, not a question. You got to be clear with me.”
“You are my one and only lady,” he said to her. “The only one I want. The only one I’m going to have.” Then he slammed her against his body with such force that it excited Savannah. “Is that clear enough for you?”
It was so harsh and so sexy both at the same time that it took her breath away. And she smiled. “As clear as glass,” she said.
