My breath was stuck in my lungs as she opened her eyes slowly. I forced her thoughts from my mind, too scared to hear her criticism and how much of a failure this gift was.

She was silent. So silent sweat began to prickle along my hairline.

She hates it. She fucking hates it. I knew it. This whole idea was a mistake!

Behind her I ran my fingers through my hair, tugging at the strands with a mixture of defeat and embarrassment.

She turned slowly and when her eyes met mine, I nearly fell to the floor from the sight. Tears streaked down her cheeks and my heart fractured.

Oh Hell, shereallyhates it.

I reached for her, unsure what to do but desperate to make it right.

“Sweet one, I—I’m so sorry. I thought this—I don’t know. I’m sorry. You hate it, this is awful.”

It took everything in me to not fall to a crumpled heap at her feet and beg for forgiveness. Shame and embarrassmentovertook me.

This room was the most beautiful space I had ever seen. It was beyond perfect!

The floor had been layered with several plush, white rugs. The lighting far brighter and more modern than the rest of the place. I could hardly fathom that someone would put so much effort into creating a space like this for me. To say I was blown away, was an understatement.

Tears continued to sting my eyes as I marveled at the space. The room itself was massive; each wall held no less than one fireplace roaring with fiery life... A couch sat in the center of the room beside a small, rectangular, white coffee table—mycouch andmycoffee table. I spotted my laptop on the small table, along with a neatly folded pile of all my blankets.

I couldn’t have stopped the tears from falling if my life depended on it, I was speechless. This man that had just popped into my life created this spaceforme.

He brought hometome.

Raios was having a mental breakdown over this because he thought I hated it, but he couldn’t be more wrong. This was single-handedly the nicest, most wholesome thing anyone had ever done for me.

Come to think of it, he’s done and been more for me in the last day, than I feel anyone has been in years.

“Though I’ve only known you a short time, I feel I understand you intimately. Not your life but you, your emotions, your dreams, your aspirations,” I quoted softly.

He looked at me, worry colored his cheeks. “What?”

“Though I’ve only known you a short time, I feel I understand you intimately. Not your life but you, your emotions, your dreams, your aspirations,” I recited louder, pulling him to me so our bodies were lightly touching. “It’s a quote.”

I could feel heat rising to my cheeks. “It uh—it just fits.” I waved a hand between us, feeling dumb for saying it out loud.

“Oh,” he replied quietly.

“Raios, I love it.” I swung my head to look directly at him. “I’m crying because of how happy I am. This is the most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me. It’s perfect—beyond perfect. It’s amazing.”

His shoulders relaxed, but he still wore an expression of worry.

“Read my mind if you don’t believe me. You’ve been so good to me, better than anyone has ever been to me in a relationship. That’s what made me recite that quote—I know it sounds dumb or whatever, but it’s true. I’ve known you for such a small fraction of time, but it doesn’t feel that way.”

Now it was my turn to run my fingers through my hair. There was so much I wanted to say, but didn’t know how to. This softer than silk devil waltzed into my life and (quite literally) swept me away, and one would think I’d be panicking or terrified for my life. But that wasn’t even close to the case. I cansee everything he says, he means with his entire being. I had no idea what he was like before me or how he acted, but with me he wore his heart valiantly on his sleeve.

“I know it’s past my birthday, but this is the best birthday present ever.Youare the best birthday present ever. All of this is a whirlwind of insanity, but if this is just a small taste of what it’s like being yours—materialistic things aside—I would say I am the luckiest girl on the planet—and I don’t know what I did to deserve having you in my life.”

Raios was speechless, his worry from before washed away—replaced by shock.

“I firmly believe even without the deal and everything it brought with it, even if we were in a different lifetime where you and I were the same, our paths would cross.”

“Weareinevitable,” he whispered slowly, as if saying the words too loudly would jinx everything.

“I’m going to pretend that sounds far less ominous than it does,” I said, laughing.
