Rashad and I were at my house, playing my game system. When we weren’t in practice, handling business, watching game tapes, or fucking with throwbacks, we chilled together. When I saw it was Rissa calling, I put the call on speaker.

There was shuffling on her end for a few seconds before I heard a door close.“Day, I’m going to fuck Simonette’s mama and sister up. They got my girl fucked up.”

I snickered at her reference of Simonette as her girl. That was Rissa though. She was a person that never met a stranger. She loved everyone until she was given a reason not to, or herdiscernment told her to stay away.“Why are you going to fuck them up, Rissa?”

“She didn’t tell you why she has to do this fake boyfriend shit and how her momma and sister have always treated her?”she asked. After I confirmed that she hadn’t, Rissa ranted about what Simonette revealed to her.“How the hell do you make your daughter feel like an ugly duckling when she’s gorgeous? Yeah, she’s a little eccentric, but that makes her more beautiful. She doesn’t conform to societal norms like these wannabe baddie bitches.”

By that time, the game Rashad and I played was paused. His controller was on the center table in front of him.“Damn, that shit is fucked up. Yeah, there’s nothing ugly about her ass at all. She is eccentric, like you said, but that shit kinda works for her. Especially now that she’s an adult.”

“Oh, did she tell you, when she told her momma that she had a man, her ticket was downgraded to economy from first class? They said her man can pay for his ticket and the upgrade,”she said with a sharp tone.“Day, we have to stunt on those bitches this weekend. I’m talking pull out all the fuckin’ stops. She’s in there crying and shit.”

There was a twinge in my soul for some reason to hear that Simonette cried about how the people that should have loved her treated her. I didn’t like that shit at all.“Sis, I got you. Let me make a few calls.”

I felt Rashad’s eyes on me. A low chuckle slipped out before he spoke. “You’re about to show the hell out, aren’t you?”

He knew me well. I picked up my phone so I could make the necessary arrangements. My eyes connected with my bestfriend’s. “By the end of the weekend, I’m going to have her mama wanting to suck my dick.”

Back To The Present . . .

When Simonette came around that corner in her house, I had to tell my dick to behave. She was already a beautiful girl, and all my sister did was enhance her beauty. She had a small frame, but it didn’t take away from her figure. I wouldn’t call her slim-thick, but she definitely had a figure.

The surprise on everyone’s face when Rashad and I got out of the SUV was comical. I quickly assessed that Simonette’s father was not one of the people that treated her adversely. It was wild when he told me that he followed my career since college.

While I talked to Mr. Brand and the other niggas that came over, I kept my eyes on Simonette and Rissa. I knew my sister, and her mouth was just as reckless as mine. Mr. Brand must have been watching as well. I wasn’t sure what Rissa said, but when Mrs. Brand’s face tightened, and Simonette’s sister’s mouth dropped open, I knew she said some wild, inappropriate shit. Mr. Brand and I rushed over. It was time to go.

Simonette’s sister’s fiancé was a bitch, and that was evident the moment he opened his mouth. I had a feeling Mr. Brand didn’t really care for him much either from their interaction. It was a tolerant situation.

“Daylen, how does everyone already know who you and Rashad are?” Simonette asked on our way to the airport. It was crazy and low key refreshing that she didn’t know who the fuck I was outside of the nigga that she tutored in college.

I turned to gaze at her. “Rashad and I play professional baseball for the Augusta Chargers. After college, I went into the pros.”

She covered her mouth with her hand, and her eyelids made room for her bulging eyes. “Oh my God. I didn’t know that. Why wouldn’t you tell me that?” When Rissa asked if she was serious, Simonette nodded her head. “I-I don’t really watch television much unless it’s a crime documentary. When I do watch the news, I don’t watch the sports portion. They called you Daylen Verse though.”

“Yes, when I graduated college, I started going by my mother’s maiden name, Verse, professionally,” I told her. “I wanted to put some distance between my pops and sister. I really thought you were just playing dumb.”

I really did. In college, she was out of touch too, but damn. She must stream from a commercial-free platform. I had several commercials on television.

She plopped back in her seat. “Great, they’ll never believe a professional baseball player would want me. No wonder they looked at me like I was crazy,” she mumbled.

Rissa popped Simonette’s shoulder. “Don’t fuckin’ do that. My brother and any nigga would be lucky to have you. I know this is an arrangement, but don’t let this make you feel less of yourself because of it.”

Simonette’s statement pissed me off, high key. If a nigga was real, she was the type of woman they would want, especially a professional athlete. She was low key, and she had her own dreams and ambitions that she went after. That shit was sexy.

“Aye, stop tripping. The way I’ma be on you this weekend, the people on the space station are going to believe I love your ass,” I assured her. “Go with the damn flow.”

Her bottom lip poked out a little as she settled in her seat. She glared at me when I tittered under my breath. I just winked. It may have been her first relationship, fake or not. She sure had that spoiled shit down. Must’ve been an inherent female trait.

When we got to the airport, I told the driver to take us to departure, although we were headed somewhere else. The group pulled up minutes after we did. The men started to pull the luggage off.

I got out and walked around to let Simonette out. She looked at me with confusion. I reminded her to let me be her man. We walked over to everyone hand in hand.

“Hey, I assume you upgraded Simonette’s ticket as well as purchased one for you and your friends. My husband will not foot that bill, and it would be uncomfortable to be on a twenty-four-hour flight in economy,” Mrs. Brand said with her nose turned up.

This bitch had me fucked up.I had something for her stuck up ass. “Damn, twenty-four hours? Oh, yeah, y’all got a layover for like four hours somewhere.” My chin moved shoulder to shoulder. “To answer your question, nah, I didn’t upgrade her ticket. We’ll get there before y’all since the jet is a direct flight.”

Mommy dearest’s and evil sister’s eyes were wide. Simonette’s eyes widened for a split second, but she recovered quickly. Mr. Brand wore a smile. That told me he was with the shits more than anyone knew.

“Oh! Well, I think my fiancé and I should ride on the jet too since it is our wedding.” Lanette’s audacity was kissing the Lord’s feet. “It could be a part of your wedding gift.”
