I understood why she asked. It was a valid question, and I had a valid answer. “Yes, they will know, because they will see me with you. Any of the women that I messed with before you are expendable. I don’t owe them a conversation about the moves that I make. If you agree that we are going to do this relationship thing, I’m blocking those hos.”

I’d never had a problem cutting a bitch, or nigga, for that matter, off. Whether folks wanted to admit it or not, everyone was assigned a value by the people whose lives they were in. The way that you would know what your value was, even if they never told you that you were assigned one, was based on how they treated you. It went without saying that people with a higher value were treated better. All humans deserved the basic right of respect, but beyond that, there were levels. Hos would never have the same value as my woman. They would have no value.

Simonette gazed at me for a beat before she smiled. “I would like to try a relationship with you. I just don’t want to get hurt, or worse, be publicly embarrassed. I can deal with hurt privately, but public embarrassment is not what I want.”

“Embarrassment is something that you will never have to worry about, publicly or privately. This is something that is going to be new for both of us. We’re going to have a steep learning curve that more than likely will be public, especially once those pictures hit social media,” I let her know.

She turned back to her plate, picked her sandwich back up, then took a bite. We both went back to eating silently. She finished her food before I did. “I’m going to take a nap.”

I chuckled. “Why you sound so nervous, Simonette? I’ll be in there in a minute. I don’t have much more to eat since someone ate all my fries.”

She rolled her eyes then stood up. “I left you six whole fries. That’s notall.”

When she started to walk off, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto my lap. Her head threw back with laughter when my hand tickled her stomach. “Damn, you’re just gonna eat my fries and not give me a kiss?”

Her arms wrapped around my neck. I put my hand behind her head and pulled her lips to mine. We kissed for a few seconds before I pulled away. “Aye, who you been kissing before me? You kiss way too good to not have been kissed before.”

I felt a little territorial. She giggled then said, “You’re my first kiss. I guess I read a lot of books.”

My face scrunched. “What kinda fuckin’ books do you read that teach you how to kiss like that, Simonette? You got one of them with you?” After she confirmed that she did, I stood up with her still in my arms. “Fuck that nap. You’re about to read to me.”

She burst into a fit of giggles after I threw her over my shoulder and carried her into the bedroom. Yeah, I needed to hear what the hell she was reading that had her kissing like she’d been doing it all her life.

Date Night . . .

“Daylen, go sit over there. I’m trying to eat,” Simonette lowly whined. “People are looking at us.”

She wasn’t used to affection, and I didn’t realize I had so much of it to give publicly. When she came out of Rissa’s room when it was time for our date, I almost didn’t want to go. Rissa straightened her hair and added these beautiful curls. Her makeup was a little more intense than I’d ever seen it, but damn, it was sexy as fuck. I wanted to keep her to myself. Rissa had me fucked up with the sundress she put on Sim. I had to do a touch and feel test to make sure her ass had on panties because her little cup of ass was jiggling.

We were at one of the beach resort restaurants. Instead of sitting across from her in the booth, I sat beside her. I was on her ass. One thing I learned about Miss Simonette Brand was that her ass was greedy as fuck. She kept blocking her neck from my kisses so she could take bites of her pasta. “Simonette, what you wearing? It smells good.”

After she finished the pasta in her mouth, she said, “I don’t know. It’s something that Rissa sprayed on me.” She twirled pasta on her fork. “Day, try this. It’s so good.”

I opened my mouth for her to put the pasta inside. I chewed and took in the great taste. “Damn, that is good.” I moved my lips to her ear. “I know something that tastes better.”

Her hand grabbed her glass of water after she choked a little. I patted her back while I held my laughter in. “You can’t say stuff like that when I have food in my mouth.” She took another sip.“You’re trying to kill me before we even get into our relationship good.”

I laughed before I kissed her neck. “Ain’t no one trying to kill you. I was just letting you know that I’m still going to be hungry when we get back to the villa. That’s all I’m saying.”

“Good evening,” a female voice said from beside us. When I turned, it was one of the bridesmaids. I wasn’t sure which one, but I knew it wasn’t the one Rashad fucked, was fucking, or whatever. “You look very pretty, Simonette.”

My baby smiled. “Thank you, Jessica. I’m surprised you’re here. Weren’t the rehearsal and dinner tonight?”

Jessica smiled. “It just ended. This restaurant has the best berry Chantilly cake ever, so here I am. I didn’t mean to bother y’all.” She stood there awkwardly for a second before she spoke again. “Hey, Simonette? I’m happy to see you’re starting to stand up to your mother and sister. You don’t deserve to get treated the way they treat you.”

I watched her walk away. I appreciated Jessica for that comment. “She seems cool. Almost like she doesn’t fit in that friend group.”

“Yeah, she used to be a little snappy with me, but then, one day, it was like she just stopped. I used to come to my parents’ house, and they all would be there. Initially, they didn’t talk to me,” she said with a shrug. “One day, I came over, and when I was in the kitchen, she just started talking to me. I looked around like, you talking to me?” She laughed at the memory.

She had a faraway look in her eyes. “Yo, don’t do that. Stay in the moment with me, baby.”

I used my fork to get some more of her pasta. You would have thought that I committed a mortal sin. “I know you’re not trippin’ about me eating some of your pasta. Let me remind you, six fries.”

“Daylen, are you the type of man that has a problem leaving the past in the past? I’m not sure if I can be in a relationship like that.” The seriousness in her tone had me gawking at her sideways like fuck. When she burst into laughter, I dropped my shoulders.

I sucked my teeth. Her ass was getting comfortable. To me, that meant she felt a sense of safety with me. “Simonette, don’t play with me. Get fucked up on day one of our real relationship.”

For the next half hour, we enjoyed ourselves and got to know each other. The more I learned about her, the more I knew I’d made the right decision to make her mine.
