“You’re beautiful. Fall is one of my favorite seasons because of how cool the temps turn and the beautiful, colorful leaves. It’s a time of reflection. I think Autumn suits you fine. In fact, I’d prefer it.”

“Thank you,” I replied, blushing slightly.

“You’re welcome.”

“I’ll have to repay you for all of your kindness someday soon. I still haven’t properly repaid you for being there for me when I went into labor and returning to pick us up and bring us home.”

“Is your dad still in his feelings about that?”

I chuckled. “No. He’s gotten over the fact that he wasn’t able to give his princess her first ride home.”

“Good. As far as how you can repay me, I’ll take a good home-cooked meal someday.”

“What are you doing for dinner tonight?”

“I was about to order a pizza.”

“How about you skip the pizza tonight and come and enjoy a London broil, shrimp pasta salad, green beans, and garlic bread. I’ve got a nice white to go with it.”

“Seriously?”

I nodded. “I just finished cooking, and I was about to sit down and eat.”

“Has the princess been fed?” he asked, thrusting his head at Auburn, who was strapped to my front.

“Yes, and now she’s sleeping peacefully.”

“Tell you what. Let me go inside, wash my hands, and I’ll be right back.”

“Okay. I’ll start fixing our plates. Just walk in when you get here, and don’t worry about ringing the doorbell,” I stated and turned around and walked back inside.

I had just fixed both our plates when October stepped inside. He was smiling and held a glass dish in his hands and packages on his arms and underneath his arms.

“What’s all that?” I asked, pointing at the two large bags and the extra-large box of diapers.

“I got the princess some diapers and wipes.” Holding up one of the bags on his arms, he explained, “In here, I have some clothes that I picked up for her while I was at the mall.”

“October, you didn’t have to do that.”

“She’s a princess. She deserves all the best things,” he declared and set the second bag down.

I went through the cute little outfits and dresses as I oohed and aahed over them, shocked at how great he was at picking out baby clothes.

“What’s that?” I asked, pointing at the glass dish that he still held.

“My dad baked an apple crisp for me. It’s one of his specialties, and I had just gotten home from picking it up when I came back out to take out the trash.”

“Let me find out your dad is a good cook and he’s as fine as you are, and I might have to steal him.”

October shot a look my way, and I instantly blushed. “Sorry. Is he not into BBWs?”

“It doesn’t matter what he’s into. I’ll knock that nigga out if he even thinks about looking your way.”

I lifted an eyebrow at October’s possessive statement that caught me off guard, and he lifted one back.

“Okay, well, you can set that right here for now,” I stated and patted a spot on the counter.

We sat down, prayed over our meal, and ate.
