Lachlan sighs and relaxes a little. “He was like a guardian angel for you. Maybe he can be my best man,” he huffs. I giggle again and tuck my nose into his shoulder, breathing him in.

“You’d have to catch him first. I swear, he lives at school.” Lachlan huffs.

“So, that’s that,” I say into his neck.

“It is little bird. You’re mine, and I’m yours. Don’t you ever forget it.”

I lean back to look him in the eye. It’s a nice sentiment, and I will try never to forget it on the bad days, but those are inevitable, more so than the good ones.

“Promise me something,” I whisper.

“Anything,” he says back.

“Promise me that we will remind each other, especially on the bad days, when it’s too hard to see through the dark. Promise me you’ll hold my hand while we look for the light again.” He takes a shaky breath and tilts his chin up to kiss me.

“I promise, Revna. With every breath in my lungs, I will spend the rest of my life reminding you and asking you to help me hold on, too.”

“Good,” I murmur against his lips. Then he drags his against mine.

“Good.”

Revna

The Day of the Final Round

Ifinishdoingmymakeup, and grab my dress hanging in the closet. I didn’t see any point in buying a new one, seeing as I’ve worn this one only once. I’m hoping Lachlan doesn’t get mad. The last time he saw me in it, I was on a date with Ryan. Although, when we danced, he didn’t seem to mind it because he kept peeking at my chest.

I pull it out, and it feels perfect for a party in Central Park, the center of New York City. Excitement has been pounding through my veins since we woke up this morning. I swear, I could sing the hills are alive even though no grassy knoll is in sight. I have never been excited about an art presentation of any kind, even if it was for a class in school. It’s just not my thing. I would rather be in a room alone, painting.

I pull my straps up and roam to the couch for Lachlan to zip me up. I step directly in front of him, between his eyes and the TV, and look over my shoulder. His eyes slowly trail up my dress and over my open back before he reaches mine. “Please?” I ask. He swallows and trails two fingers down my spine before reaching the zipper to pull me in.

I turn around to face him, wondering what his reaction will be. He stares at me like he wants to rip it off my body but in a good way. “You’re finally wearing this for me, and you’ll be on my arm this time,” he says smugly.

I roll my eyes and pat him on the shoulder. “Last time I checked, babe, I was the one wearing the dress. So that would likely mean it’s for me,” I quip, which is true to some extent. I love the dress, but I also like how he looks at me in it.

“Well, whoever you’re wearing it for, I like it on you,” he says saucily.

I grab my shoes off the closet floor. Before I close the door, his arms are around me and he tucks his head into my neck. “And I can’t wait to rip it off and leave it in pieces on the floor,” he says into my neck. I shiver and giggle as he spins us around. The shoes go flying out of my hands and land across the floor.

He stops spinning us, and it takes me a second to find my footing. “You look beautiful, love,” he says, biting the shell of my ear before releasing me. I search for my other shoe and turn around, thinking it got flung on the other side of the bed. Lachlan holds it up with his finger.

“Your toes are going to freeze,” he says, looking between me and the shoe.

I shrug and hold my hand out for it. “I have two pairs of nice shoes, and those are one of them. The others didn’t work.”

He frowns. “The others you wore in Italy covered your toes. Why can’t you wear those?”

I shoot him a look and cross my arms. “Since when are you the fashion police?” I ask.

“Since my woman’s feet are going to get cold.” He tosses me the shoe, and I catch it, putting it on the floor next to the other.

“Then you can carry socks in your pocket for me,” I throw out.

“Ok, sure, I can do that.” I straighten, and he goes to our dresser and pulls out a pair of his socks. He folds them and then slides them into his jacket pocket.

“Lachlan, you don’t need to do that. I’ll survive.” He shakes his head.
