“I can’t help myself with you,” I murmur, coming back up to her face, hovering over her.
She drags her hand over my chest, down my stomach to my boxers. “I think I have a huge idea,” she whispers.
The corner of my mouth quirks up with the boost to my ego. She drags her fingers over my skin, and my bones shake under her light touch. I can’t imagine what it will be like when we do get to that point.
“Thank you,” she whispers.
I kiss her cheek. “For what?”
“For making them stop.”
“Are they quiet now?” I ask.
She nods while her finger traces my mouth. “You have perfect lips, under that beard.”
I grin and kiss her cheek.
“You still have me beat.”
Her eyebrow tips up in question.
“Everything about you is perfect.”
She huffs and shakes her head. “It’s not, nor will it ever be, but thank you.”
I drop down next to her. She cuddles into my chest and sighs. “You might have considered going back to your bed, but that’s not allowed anymore.”
I chuckle, and she kisses my chest again.
“I’m exactly where I want to be.”

She ismine. She doesn’t belong to him.
I smile to myself thinking of her sobbing into the dirt over her present. When I left, she was a mess.
I had to come back under the cover of night and check on her. Maybe she will see now that not even her garden matters.
Only what is between us.
But my joy washed away when I came back, replaced with seething fury filling me to the brim. I had my pocket of mints, ready to settle in for the night, and watch her. But then I sawhim.I need to make him leave her. I don’t know why, but I hoped they ended their strange relationship. I couldn’t be so lucky. My urges keep getting stronger, and I know time is running out.
There is a plan in place, and he keeps screwing it up. I thought I left enough breadcrumbs for the crimes to point to Killian. No matter, I will have to make an exception to my rule, and kill Killian myself. She’ll be sad and mourn him, but then she will be mine, forever. But I have to push them apart first, and if my plan doesn’t succeed … well, if I can’t have her, then no one can.
Chapter forty-four
Eliana
Istareathispeaceful face and smile to myself. Waking up to him shouldn’t feel this good. Especially after what he did. I’m aware he pushed me away because he was struggling to process. But I’m not sure any of that matters anymore. Whoever is watching me is getting more confident, and I can sense the clock counting down.
I was so tired last night I forgot to close the blinds, and the sun is shining on Killian, highlighting his brown hair with reds and oranges, dyed from the sun. I brush a few locks out of his face and drag my finger lightly over his relaxed features. He doesn’t have his trademark furrowed brow. He’s softer asleep. Awake, he’s quite the opposite. I like knowing that about him. It makes me want to dig deeper.
I lightly brush my finger over his nose, and he twitches it. I smile and do it again. It twitches, and he brushes his hand over the spot.
Pinning my lips together so I don’t laugh, I drag a finger over his lips, down to his neck.
His lips twitch, and he flips onto his back.
