I giggle, and he plops another kiss on my cheek before throwing himself to the side and hopping off the bed, going to the bathroom.

When he comes back, he crawls over me, beginning a trail of kisses all over my body, leaving a map of him on my skin. My nose burns, and I blink to keep the tears at bay, overwhelmed by my hungry desperation, and wild desire for more of him.

He kisses my cheek and throws his leg over both of mine. “Are you sure you’re okay? Can I get you anything?” he asks.

I shake my head and rest my cheek on his shoulder. “I’m pretty sure you’re the one who told me we wouldn’t sleep tonight.”

“You gotta give me a few minutes, baby,” he chuckles. “Demanding little witch, aren't you?”

I nod rapidly.

He chuckles, then his expression drops into a serious look. Killian grabs my throat, tilting my chin up. “I love you, Eliana. I need you,” he says.

He scrutinizes my face, waiting for me to respond. The vulnerability in his eyes crushes me. I don’t know how to answer. But in this moment, I chose to abandon all of my fears of losing him, and what we’ve built.

“Why would you love me?” I ask him.

He scoffs, rubbing his thumb on the underside of my jaw. “How can I not? You make it impossible not to. I have nothing but reasons to love you.”

I blink, and he pecks my lips.

“I think I could go on for hours,” he says, and chuckles at the face I’m making.

“I won’t, but I love you because you make me a better man. You are peace to me. Whenever I’m around you, it feels like I can see the sun again. I think you were meant for me all along,” he says, the last words on a whisper. His brows wrinkle as his eyes coast over my skin.

“Oh, and you’re beautiful, but that goes without saying,” he says with a bright smile, before kissing the tip of my nose.

My face gets hot, and I look away, smiling.

“Look at me.”

I lift my eyes to his, and my walls crumble around us. Though I won’t give him those words, I give him the most sacred part of myself.

“I need you too,” I whisper.

He grins and smashes his lips onto mine, consuming the very breath in my lungs.Instinct takes over, and we’re all tongues, moans, and limbs, and love that we can’t totally express. We go from slow and burning to can’t catch our breath kind of making love. It wraps you up and creates a knot that can never be undone. Love that brands itself on your soul forever.

Chapter fifty-two

Killian

Bark!Bark!Bark!

I shoot up and immediately check for Eliana. She’s still there as I quietly roll out of bed, and grab my shotgun next to the wardrobe. Sure it could be a bunny or a raccoon, but it’s not like Tiny to bark at small animals like that, and it’s a growl I’ve heard only a few times—when he’s trying to protect.

“Killian wha—” Eliana looks at me, rubbing sleep from her eyes.

“Stay here. Don’t turn on any lights,” I grunt and leave my bedroom, buck naked.

If it was the bastard who’s after Eliana, time is of the essence. I have to move quickly.

Going down the stairs quietly. Tiny stands at the front door. He’s at attention, and his hackles are up. I look around the room first, but I don’t see anything.

My heart thuds in my chest as I go for the front door. Tiny looks at me like he’s waiting for the command. Peeking through the window above the sofa, I look around. It’s dark, hard to see, and the floodlight further down my driveway doesn’t give meenough light by the house. If I flip on the porch light, I’ll give myself away.

I have no choice but to open the door and look myself.

Placing my hand on the knob, I take a deep breath, and throw it open. I put my hand back on the stock, I check each of my corners. Nothing is there.
