Itook a margarita over to him. “Here.”Hesmiled faintly as he accepted it.

“Seemsto me whoever killed him is to blame.AndifDonwas as nice a guy as you say, he’d know how sorry you are.”

Felixnodded into his margarita but didn’t say anything else.

Isat next to him, and we drank in silence for a few minutes.Isaid, “Myleg’s kind of bothering me.Wouldyou object to a visit to the hot tub?”

Felixlooked relieved to have something to do. “Soundsgood.I’lltext the guys to let them know we’ll be over there.”Hehopped up to get his swim trunks and a towel.

Ifound a couple of insulated bottles and mixed more margaritas.Felixput them in his backpack with some bottled water whileIput my own swim trunks on.

Tenminutes later we were lowering ourselves into the water.IhelpedFelixslather some sunscreen on his face, neck and shoulders, then we just relaxed.Icould get used to this.Exceptfor the whole bomber/murderer issue of course.

Igrabbed my phone off the side of the hot tub and took a picture of my feet poking out of the water with the paddocks and horses in the distance.Iopened my text message thread withCraigandGreg.

“That’llbe fine.Willsaid we could have people here, remember?I’lllet the three of them know so they can tell the security guy manning the gate.”

“Thanks.”Hestarted texting andImessagedCraigandGregback to come to the ranch.

Willcame outside, accompanied by the puppies, who promptly put their front legs on the lip of the hot tub and begged to be petted.

“Hey, guys.JasonandColewant to grill for dinner. You’rewelcome to join us.CraigandGregtoo.”

Ichecked withFelix, and he nodded, soIgrunted and said, “Thanks.”

“Oh, and tellCraighe can bringLily.Theyadopted her from us, and she’d enjoy seeing these two menaces.”Hepointed at the puppies.

Nextto me,Felixgasped. “That’swhyLilylooked so familiar.Didn’tImeet her inJanuaryafter she’d been dumped here?Shewas still pregnant.”

Willnodded. “Shehad the puppies pretty soon after your visit.Butshe didn’t like the farm animals, so we had to find her a new home. She’llbe okay for a visit though if we keep her away from the barn and the horses.”

Isaid, “MariposatoleratesLilyokay, so ifLilyseems uncomfortable at all we can put her in the guest house.”

Ireached for my phone again and textedCraigto bring the pooch.Mycane freaked her out, so if the crutches did the same,I’dtry to stay seated around her.
