“I did already. She said she’d discuss it with Dr. Fagan since he’s officially my school advocate.”

“Good, so I’m guessing they’ll know how to handle it.”

Kaden looked over at me and smiled. “You’re always Mr. Optimistic,” he teased.

“If it isn’t a problem, don’t turn it into one. That’s a saying my mom drilled into my head when I was a kid.”

“Yeah, makes sense,” he said. He leaned over then and kissed me.

“Dude, all you two do is kiss,” Kyle said as he came around the corner and flopped down across from us.

I laughed. “Where’s your sister?”

“She got roped into doing some women’s only telekinetic thing.”

“And you’re jealous?” I asked.

“Well, they did confirm that we’re polarities. If we’re stronger together, it doesn’t make sense to work apart.”

“Really? Dude, you’re a mess. You and your sister won’t be together all the time. She’s got to learn how to use her powers when you aren’t there. Besides, you’re here at the school. You don’t have to be side by side for the polarity energies to work.”

He took a deep breath and sighed. “I know. It’s just that we’ve always done things together. It’s strange when we don’t.”

Kaden reached over and patted Kyle on the shoulder. “It’ll be okay, is it harder ’cause you’re twins?” he asked.

“Yeah, probably. But she’s started seeing Leon too, and we spend less and less time together. It’s just strange not to have her bugging the crap out of me all the time.”

“So, how’s it going with Terry?” I asked.

Kyle heaved a sigh. “He isn’t that into me. No surprise, he’s Mr. Superhero. Do you know his granddad was one of the first? No, you probably don’t, and I wouldn’t either, except he tells me, like, every time I come around. So, nothing is going on there.”

I sat next to Kyle. “Sorry, buddy, but he’s not the only Supe here. Did you notice the other day some upperclassman was checking you out?”

Kyle laughed. “You’re an idiot. No one was checking me out.”

We argued in good humor while he, Kaden, and I had dinner together. Afterward, we all had to get back to our studies. Professor Sturgis had piled on a ton of homework for Elemental Studies, saying we should be far enough along now to be able to pick up the pace.

Kaden and I weren’t in the same class, but we had the same syllabus and professor, so we could study together. I was glad our class was too big to fit us all into one room, because having Kaden with me was distracting. Not only because he still glowed like a freaking black light bulb, but because now that black glow caused my insides to quiver in anticipation of being in bed together again.

I hadn’t understood what emotions that light and his intense stare caused me to feel when I’d first met him, but I had no problem understanding them now. Kaden Pierce could melt me with his sexy eyes and aura with no effort whatsoever.

If I didn’t know he was a Quadripartite, I’d argue he was an incubus or some other Supe who had the power to melt people from the inside out with their basic desire for him.

Chapter twenty-four

Kaden

Dr.Faganwasconcernedwhen I told him the more controlled I made my powers, the more they all tried to come out at once. Elana, our new teacher, and Dr. Fagan said they’d discuss it. Ultimately, they decided I should only do the concentrated experiments when I was under the supervision of the Water element people.

So, we were back to me practicing with the individual elements one at a time, which, honestly, was still pretty awesome. I could move water in an arc, and I could freeze it or turn it into steam.

I could do the same with Fire. Playing between the aspects of smoke and fire. Elana even showed me how to utilize the Air element of my abilities to cause the Fire to ignite or reduce it to a small flame deprived of oxygen.

Earth was more difficult. I ended up hanging out with three upperclassmen who were experts at using Earth energy. Of course, I was under the supervision of Elana. We moved rocks from the ground, then dissected them into different components: granite, sand, and limestone. Most of the local rocks didn’t have quite as many elements to them, they were mostly granite, but I got the idea.

We also worked on the granite, using our abilities to create sculptures. The delicate work once again felt as though all my powers wanted to come out at once, so I stopped doing the sculpture aspects of the training and told Elana why.

She looked concerned and nodded, but asked me to continue with the other exercises.
