I got on my bike and followed Max to his place. Fraiser talked about this place all the time when we were in the service. I smirked. I expected to see the name Fraiser on everything.

That man almost took my breath away. Of course, I had to run over him. I chuckled at his expression when he stepped in front of me. It was like, 'Oh, hell, she’s going to hit me.' I chuckled again, and Cleo asked what was so funny. When I told her what happened, her eyes were as big as saucers. It worried me that she could still be so scared.
“He’s a SEAL like Max and his buddies. You don’t need to worry about him. He’s a Protector.”
“Does he protect kids?”
“He protects everyone who needs protecting.”
“Good. I want to talk to him.”
“Poppy, why do you want to talk to him? Whoops.” Sometimes I forget and use her real name.
“I just feel like I need to tell someone about what I saw. Someone who can protect both of us.”
“Tessa will be here to pick you up soon. Can we talk about this tomorrow?”
“Okay, I wish you would come with me.”
“I feel silly with them calling me Hey all the time.”
“You should have told them your name. Or made one up like we did for me.”
There’s Tessa now. I couldn’t think of a name. We will talk tomorrow. Bring me some dessert.”
I opened the door when Tessa knocked.
“Why don’t you come with us?”
“I will as soon as my brother is behind bars or dead. The first two officers who went to talk to him have yet to be found,” I whispered, low enough so Poppy wouldn’t hear me.
“I wish you would talk to Max.”
“I’m considering that. Have you met the new guy?”
“Yes, he’s staying at our place. His name is Liam James, and he is so hot. He seems a bit more wild than the others.”
“Don’t forget you’re married.”
Tessa laughed, and so did I. We both knew how much she loved her husband.
“I’m ready,” Cleo said, coming into the room.
“Cleo, you are beautiful.”
“Even with my bright red hair.”
“It brings out your beautiful green eyes.” We all stopped and looked at each other. Cleo ran back to the bathroom to put in her colored contact lenses. Both of us wore them.
I locked the door, all five bolts, and took out my laptop. I created a fake account to read everything about Jerod Kennedy. I couldn’t believe he was still walking around free. It disgusted me that because he was a police officer, he was more protected than the people he killed were.
