“Sorry, babe. How do you feel?”

“Good. I’ll feel better when you can take me and Mikey home.”

“I will. As soon as I’m able.”

“There’s something else I need you to do when you’re able….” With a cheeky smile, she straddles me.

“Oh, what’s that?”

She giggles. “It involves you inserting something big and hard into something small and soft.”

Fuck. Even though I’m beginning to feel light-headed, my body is responding to her. “I think I could manage that now.”

“Nope.” She shakes her head, hair swinging from side to side. “When you’re all better. I’m going to slather that chocolate-hazelnut spread all over you and lick. It. Off.”

“Shit.” Furiously looking around the room, I let out a disgruntled huff.

“What are you looking for?”

“My wallet. You need to buy more of that spread.”

Her eyes widen, glowing at the prospect of our chocolate-hazelnut-spread game. “Yes!” She nods vigorously, a grin taking over her face. “I’ll buyallthe spreads!”

“Yeah. All the spreads from all the stores.”

“What are you two druggies on about?” Gage asks when he re-enters the room.

“A fucking amazing game,” I answer.

“Do I even want to know?”

Ellen and I exchange glassy-eyed gazes.

“Nope.”

“We kept him on ice for you.”

My eyes slide from Gage to stare at Briggs’s bruised and battered face as he sits tied to a chair in one of the underground rooms at the warehouse. With the help of Mission’s guys, Gage was able to tie up all the loose ends while I was unconscious. The Pharmacist’s operation is dead and so are all his men, including the ones who shot up our clubhouse. The man from the ambulance, his story checked out so he was released. Ellen’s even asked him to stay in contact.

Approaching Briggs, I rub my fingers against the piece of paper Tek slipped me. I wanted to drag this out, extract as much pain as I could from him, but looking at him now, I just want it over.

For Ellen.

For Allah.

Hell, for me, too. The motherfuckerdidshoot me. Twice. He should have escaped while he had the chance instead of pulling the cowboy stunt he did. His head tips back, swollen, barely open eyes meeting mine. I’m not even sure he can see me.

“I made you a promise, Briggs. I intend to keep it.”

His head bobs and weaves. The brothers really did a number on him. His shoulder looks dislocated, wrist broken, a few fingers missing. I’m doing him a favor by ending his life. Not that he deserves it.

I read off the address on the paper. Some kind of protest tries to make it past his lips, but it looks like they took his tongue, too. I’m not really going to send his head to his mother, but I feel better knowing he’s dying thinking I will. I press the barrel of my gun to the middle of his forehead and carefully rack the slide so I don’t aggravate my wounds. I wanted to see the look in his eyes, but my brothers deprived me of that. I’ll have to settle for knowing his heart no longer beats. I fire, watching the bullet exit the back of his head and hit the wall behind him, gray matter splattering around it. Tucking the Glock back into my holster, I turn to face everyone.

“Let’s go bury our brother.”
