“Sure. Thanks.” I lean on the counter, folding my arms across my chest. “There’s something I want to talk to you about, though.”

Turning off the stove and removing the pan from the heat, he faces me. “Club?”

“No, personal.”

“Oh.” He visibly relaxes. “What’s going on?”

“I… went on a date last night.”

“Seems like it went well.” He smiles knowingly.

“It did.”

“So what’s the problem?” he asks.

“It was with Ellen.”

He raises a brow, expression now all business. “My Ellen?”

Just like I suspected, the papa bear in him rears its head.

“That’s why I wanted to talk to you.”

“I’m assuming it was the first time.”

I nod.

“You think it could be serious?”

“I do, but ultimately it’s up to her.”

“I know.” He sighs, moving next to me. “Have you told Gage?”

“Not yet. I’m going to wait until he gets back to do it in person.”

“Good idea. My baby girl hasn’t been the same since what happened to Watchdog. For her to even be giving you the time of day, there must be something there.” He turns to face me. “You’re already like a son to me, so if you’re looking for my blessing, it’s yours.”

“Thanks, Chopper. I appreciate it.”

“Just take care of her.”

“I will.”

He pulls me into a hug, and I return it, grateful for the direction this conversation went in.

“Good luck… and I won’t say anything to Reaper, either.” He chuckles.

“Eh… I can handle him.” I smile, patting his back.

“If you say so. Now let’s eat.”

After breakfast and checking in with the other guys, I head to Ellen’s. I park in her driveway, and for a long time, I just sit there. I want her; I know that much. I also know she’s still very much in love with her dead fiancé. Am I fooling myself in thinking I can help her get over him? It’s not like she’s looking for love; she’s made that abundantly clear. What’s clear to me is there’s something here. I haven’t felt this kind of connection with anyone before. Hopefully I can help her to see it for what it is, not just a sexual attraction.

Taking a deep breath, I hop off my bike and walk to the door. She opens it after the first knock, her face glowing from the brilliant smile she’s giving me.

“Hi.”

“Miss Hunter.” I nod, returning her smile.
