“Let me know and I’ll come get you later.”

“Okay.”

The line goes dead. It takes everything in me not to stop the car and dance on the side of the road.Yes!Looks like tonight is the night.

Damn, I have so much to do!

When I pull into Mikey’s school, I call Daddy.

“Hey, darlin’.”

“Hi, Daddy. Can you watch Mikey tonight?”

“I take it that means you’re seeing the good doctor tonight.”

“How did you know?”

“Well, he asked for my blessin’ a few days ago.”

“Oh.”

He asked for Daddy’s blessing to date me? I don’t know if I should be flattered or freaked. I mean… I know he wanted to take things slowly, but this is more than that. This isserious.

“Don’t worry about it, baby girl. We’ll talk when you bring Mikey by.”

“Sure, Daddy.”

I hang up, still thinking about where Einstein is trying to take this thing with us. He knows where I stand. I thought we were just dating. Is he hoping for more? Or is he just covering his bases? Daddy might be old, but I know what he’s capable of. Despite his love for Einstein, I’m his only daughter, and he’d do anything to protect me. My brother is the same. That has to be it. I’ll just let Daddy know my side when I see him later.

My phone rings again. This time it’s Raven.

“Hey, sis!”

“Hey, you. How’s the honeymoon?”

“Marvelous,” she replies in a faux-British accent. “This place is gorgeous!”

“You mean you actually left the hotel room?” I chuckle.

“Yeah, well, Gage owed me sex under a palm tree so….”

“Ugh. I should have known.”

She giggles, but lowers her voice when she asks, “What about you? Please tell me you and Dr. E have been doing the forbidden dance.”

“What do you know about the forbidden dance?”

“It was on TV the other night. And yes, we actually watched TV. Don’t change the subject.”

“No, we haven’t. But I think we’re close.”

“Oooh! Get it,’mana! You have to tell me everything when I get back.”

“Well, you’re the one who steered me in this direction, so you’ll be the first to know.”

She’ll probably be the only one to know. I’ve spoken to Janet a few times since our night out, but it’s not the way it used to be. I’m thinking it won’t ever be that way again.

“That’s good.” Her voice changes and I get the feeling she now has an audience. “How’s Mikey?”
