After dropping by my house to put away the envelope that was still in my pocket, I stop at a store to get the supplies for Mikey’s experiment, then head to the airport to pick up Gage and Raven. The prez grabs my hand, pulling me into a one-armed hug.
“Miss me, fucker?” he asks.
“Yeah, not so much.”
I chuckle, releasing him and catching Raven when she jumps into my arms.
“Dr. E!”
“Hey, beautiful. How was the honeymoon?”
“Awesome. We both needed that break, you know?”
“I do. Come on, let’s get you home.”
“What you been up to?” Gage asks once we’re on the road.
“Nothing much. It’s been quiet since you left. Just been working.”
I catch Raven’s smirk in my mirror, telling me she’s spoken to Ellen. Obviously she hasn’t said anything to her husband. Thank fuck. I’d hate for him to hear from anyone but me.
“Good. I hope it stays that way. After the year I had, I could use a break.”
“I second that,” Raven agrees.
My phone rings and the call comes through on the Bluetooth.
“VP,” Razor’s voice booms from the car’s speakers.
“Yeah. I got Gage and Raven with me.”
“Good. We may have a situation.”
“Fuck!” Gage growls. “I just fucking landed!”
“It’s Chopper.”
