“Pop? What’s going on, Razor?”
We’re both instantly on alert, and Raven unbuckles her seat belt, sliding forward on the seat.
“He laid down his bike. He’s okay, just a few bumps and bruises.”
“Thank God.” Raven breathes a sigh of relief.
“I figured you could come take a look, make sure nothing more serious is going on.”
“I’ll be there soon,” I answer.
Gage and I exchange a look, sensing something else in Razor’s voice. There’s more, but he knew we weren’t alone. Shit. I knew it was too quiet around here.
“Babe, seat belt,” Gage snaps.
Sighing, Raven returns to her position, clicking the belt on.
“Please, Dr. E, you need to take him off my hands for a few days. Since he found out about the baby, he’s become even more of a bossy dick.”
“You love my dick.”
She scoffs. “Less and less every day.”
I chuckle, always entertained when I’m around these two. Despite her age, Raven is perfect for Gage.
“That’s not what you said this morning.” He flashes her a smirk over his shoulder.
Sticking out her tongue, she focuses her attention out the window. I concentrate on the road, wondering what the hell is going on. As a club, we pretty much stay out of everyone’s way. Our businesses are legit and any dealings we have on the other side of the law are handled carefully. Gage always makes sure nothing can be traced back to us. The last MC we had any trouble with was the Black Snakes, but we worked that out.
“I’ll call Ellen and Nita and have them meet us at the clubhouse,” Gage says, pulling his phone out of his pocket. “They’ll nag the fuck out of me if I don’t let them know now.”
Ellen. Fuck. Looks like I’ll have to postpone my talk with Gage. We need to sort out this Chopper situation first.
Tyler opens the clubhouse gates, and I acknowledge him with a chin lift as I pull in. He runs up, opening Raven’s door and helping her out.
“Thanks, Tyler.” She gives him a grateful smile.
“Get the bags, Prospect,” Gage orders, taking Raven’s hand.
I toss Tyler my keys and follow the prez and his wife inside. Chopper is sitting at the bar, a bottle of Jack in his hand as Trixie tries to clean up his cuts. There’s a smile on Gage’s face as all the brothers greet him and his wife, but I can see the unease behind it. He wants to get down to business.
I make my way over to Chopper, Raven in tow. Waving Trixie aside, I ask her to get my medical bag from my room. Raven throws her arms around Chopper, burying her face in his chest.
“Hey, lil darlin’. Good to have you back.”
“Don’t scare me, Dad.”
“I’m fine. Just a few scratches. How’s my grandson?”
“Your grandsonorgranddaughter is fine. We’re just worried about you.”
“No need to worry. I’m a tough old bastard. Gonna take more than this to get rid of me.”
“Good, ’cause we’re gonna need you.”
When Gage approaches, Raven retreats, telling him she’ll wait in his room. She’s a smart girl; obviously she knows something is up, too.
“I’ll come get you in a bit, babe.”
