He smirks, releasing my hand and pulling out his phone. After tapping something on the screen, he turns it to me. It’s a web page with the definition of “Steele.” As I read it, a few phrases jump out from the screen—“huge penis” and “amazing lover,” to be precise.

I lick my lips, letting my eyes sweep over his body. He is sexy as hell. Or maybe it’s the implication of his name affecting my vision. I don’t know, but I really don’t care. He’s a man, and he’s interested. Inme.

“What’s your name, darlin’?”

Crap. He doesn’t know who I am.Lie, Ellen.Lie. Give him a fake name. He’ll be gone tomorrow and be none the wiser. Then again, he doesn’t know who I am, so it won’t matter.

“Ellen.”

“Ellen.” He smiles, slowly nodding. “Pretty name.”

Please don’t say “for a pretty girl.”

“How about I get you a real drink?”

Thank you!

“Can’t. I’m driving.”

“Cool. No worries.”

He asks for a beer, then somehow wrangles me a stool, helping me to climb on.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, darlin’.”

Damn. That “darlin’” just sent a mighty nice shiver down my spine. I like where this is going.

“Where you from?” I ask.

“South Carolina. Never met the groom, but I’ve heard great things. Had to come and see for myself.”

“You’re new, aren’t you?”

“Just got my top rocker a few weeks ago.”

“I can tell.”

“Is that so, pretty Ellen?” He gently tucks my hair behind my ear. “What else can you tell?”

Before I can answer, an arm slides around my shoulder, and I just know it’s Gage. No!

“Everything okay, sis?”

I turn to him, hoping the “get lost” and the threat are evident in my glare. “I’m fine.”

“This is your sister? Like your blood sister?” Steele asks.

I close my eyes in despair, knowing this is the end of the conversation we were having.

“Yeah. So whatever little plans you were making for tonight, you get them out of your head. Where she’s concerned, at least.”

“I didn’t know, man. But honestly, we were just talking.”

“Mm-hmm. Let’s keep it that way.”

I face Steele, sensing him already pulling away. I silently beg him not to leave, but I guess his fear of my brother far outweighs his attraction to me. I raise my hand to stop him and he glances down at it.
