“I told you,” Camila murmured.

While my face heated under her praise, she glanced over my shoulder at Silas.

“Jake said—”

“He said ‘no call, no text.Didn’t do either.”

Jake.

Dressed in a black suit and shirt opened at the collar, he was heartbreakingly handsome. He’d stopped halfway between what used to be my quarters and the kitchen, and his angry expression skewered me into place.

Then, the severity of his stare gave way to something that made my heart flinch.I let that something guide me toward him.

“I’m so sorry about your dad,” she whispered.

“He died.”

Her soft eyes filled with tears, and she nodded.

My throat got tight.“He’s gone.”

Her hand slid to my jaw with a soothing softness only she possessed.“I know.”

I yanked her to me and buried my face in her neck until she was all I could feel. When her arm wrapped tight around me and her hand gripped the back of my neck, I inhaled her scent, absorbing her inside of me.

Someone touched my arm.“We should be going soon,” Cam said.
