“Um…” Bianca tried to interrupt; her finger raised tentatively in front of her.

“Do you really think I’m the meanest person in school?” His gaze wandered over her, as if his entire self-esteem rested on her response.

“Yes, or a close second.” Bianca nodded without even an ounce of hesitation. “That’s one reason why we hated you.”

One reason!

I gasped, clawing at my chest. I was going to have a heart attack.

He was definitely going to kick her ass now.

“I get that.” Cory nodded instead, not at all offended. “I mean, I’m not very nice.”

Bianca shook her head. “No, you’re not.”

“But it’s not all that bad,” he said. “I mean, we went on a date.”

“It was terrible,” Bianca answered bluntly.

I knew why Bianca thought it was terrible—she’d never gotten the cheeseburger she longed for. But I had a feeling that Cory’s perception might be much different.

“Yeah.” He rubbed the back of his neck, and he frowned. “We didn’t get to know each other the way I wanted, and you had that family emergency. I hoped to take you to my car.”

My pulse roared. Thatasshole! He evensaidit!Hiscar—his flashy car with the cum stains!

I refused to allow it.

Bianca shook her head. “No, we didn’t!”

Why the hell was she agreeing? I mean, she might not have understood exactly what he meant, butcome on. I narrowed my eyes at her harder, hoping she could feel my discontent.

“Let’s try again.” His voice was low and gruff, as he acted shy, which was probably the worst thing ever because Bianca had a softness for shy individuals. His fingers twitched nervously at his side as he asked, “Do you want to go to prom with me?”

My heart stopped beating, and my throat closed over. She’d stiffened at his words, looking up at him through lowered lashes. It was a look I knew very well—she was interested.

But why would she be? She was terrified of crowds and loud places—and the prom was a perfect example of both.

Why would she even consider it?

“Let me think about it?” she said slowly, locking her fingers behind her back. “Can I let you know tomorrow?”

“Sure! That would be awesome. Just let me know, we only have four days.” Cory pulled back, smiling even though he hadn’t gotten a ‘yes,’ and he winked at her. “Your particular kind of nerdiness is growing on me.”

No! We didn’t want Cory to like our nerdiness!

She shot him a low look, one I recognized as reserved judgement, and my pounding heart echoed even louder. “I guess it’s the same for me.”

“I’ll take care of Adrian,” Cory said. “Don’t worry about him anymore.”

She pursed her lips, clearly not believing him, but nodded. “Thanks.”

I was screaming internally as the two then separated, and Cory strolled away and jumped into his car. Then, with a wide grin, he drove off as he waved at her.

Meanwhile, I was left stunned.

What just happened?

“We did it!” Bianca was suddenly at my side. “He’s going to stop using steroids!”
