‘I’m there,’ Kiania reassured me. Meanwhile, I jumped the basement stairs by twos. The lights were already turned off, and my footsteps echoed through the long, dark hallway as I reached the place where the path split into two. The changing rooms were to the right, the pool to the left.
Ifshe’d stayed down here, she would be at the locker rooms. She’d know I needed to change—that was what made sense.
But… Drew’s warning rang in my head, and my panic was pressing close to the surface.
My intuition told me that every second counted.
