There was such turmoil in his eyes.
Caspian knew he needed to figure this out, and fast. Maybe he could talk to Elizabeth, and she could help him work through this.
He loved his family, but there was something here that he’d never felt before. It was something he’d always wondered about.
“I want to make promises,” he said, “but we both know that would be disingenuous of me. What I can promise is that I’ll try to get back here to see you again.”
She understood.
“I look forward to it, Caspian. Before you go, come say goodbye, okay?” she asked.
He slowly nodded.
“I will. That I can promise.”
Kissing her, he wanted to stay in bed all day with her, but that wasn’t in the cards for him. Caspian had work to do. It was time to put on his other persona and get to work.
Breaking the kiss, he stared into her eyes.
“Will you be joining Elizabeth today?” he asked.
She smiled, despite that disappointment that their time together was fleeting.
“You’d better believe it. Do you think I’m going to give up a day where I get to watch you be all sullen in military black?”
He laughed.
“Sullen? I mean, silent, maybe, but sullen?” he asked. “For that, you owe me a cup of tea. I don’t do coffee.”
She stared at him like he had four heads, three eyes on each one, and was speaking in a foreign language.
“Wait. What? You don’t drink coffee?”
He nodded.
“Are you human? Have they verified it? Because you have a perfect body, like standing on your head, and don’t drink coffee. I can rationalize the first two, but the last…?”
He laughed and pushed off of the bed.
When he did, she saw his erection and licked her lips. The second she did, he took two steps backward.
“If we do it again, we’ll never get to work.”
She laughed.
“Sue a girl for having a sexy fantasy in her head. That’s your fault. That was some pretty hot sex, Marine,” she stated, getting up and walking past him to slap him on the ass.
It amused him, and that was something that also never happened.
He and the ladies…sex was okay, and basically just because of the basic needs.
Rayna had made it…different.
As he pulled on his things, she put her robe on to go make him tea. Rayna was debating between skipping the shower, and taking one.
She smelled like him, and that wasn’t the worst thing she’d ever experienced. In fact, it was one of the best things.
In the kitchen, she dumped some kibble into a dog bowl, and started the coffee pot. As she did, she put a kettle on the stove.
