Coming back here meant she had to get the kids and his sons here.
And he had more than just Ethan and Callen.
He’d adopted Chris, who also never had a father in his life, and Gene, who didn’t have a relationship with his family since they didn’t want a gay son in the mix.
Their hearts were tied up in this too.
To everyone who had been left behind, Wyler was bailing on all of them.
Or that was how it felt.
Now, she had to figure out how to make this work. It was divide and conquer on just about everything in their lives now.
She was traveling with the minimum team she could. That meant more weight would be on her, Callen, Gene, Ethan, and Chris.
They’d have no choice but to take more cases. They’d have no choice but to work longer hours.
Chris was going to be theONLYME working for them, since he didn’t like the options atFBI West.
It wasn’t that he didn’t like the doctors…
The devil you knew.
That was his motto.
The two doctors who had been currently holding down theORIGINALAutopsy Onehad replaced him and Zane when they moved to DC to work out of the main office. He’d leftFBI Westin good hands, mostly.
Until they moved on too.
Now, they were MEs that Chris had hired since it was technically his job to keep both offices staffed. He was the Director of Forensic Medicine for the FBI and the burden was his to follow through on.
He’d staffed the office inDamascuswith qualified people. Only, to Chris, qualified didn’t mean he wanted to work with them.
He was a little…over the top when it came to rules and regulations in the workplace.
Basically, he had high standards.
And none of the people there fit them.
Those were his words, not hers.
She didn’t know how to run a morgue, do an autopsy, or get that many letters and titles after her name, so she was deferring that to him.
Chris was going to have to hold up until he could hire out.
That stressed her too, considering his health.
Yeah, they were all under the gun now.
All she could bring with her was the minimum amount of investigators. The rest, if she needed help, would have to be picked from the pool of staff there.
And like Chris, she was…particular.
Those were her words.
Period.
This was going to be rough on all of them. For the time being, until they could both do some hiring, she had Christopher, Anthony, Blue, and Jaxon to carry the brunt of the morgue load.
