She listened.

“I found something called Kuru disease, and you’ll need to check with Chris on all of these.”

Oh, she would.

“People who eat flesh can have neurological diseases that come about by prions. I have no idea what a prion is, but it’s from brains being eaten, mostly.”

She looked grossed out.

“Oh, that offends you?” he asked, laughing.

She was to the point.

“Flesh is flesh, and I’m convincing myself it tastes like chicken, but brains…they are squishy and gross.”

No one argued there.

Callen continued.

“The prions form in the brain, and they are passed from the brain to the people eating them. The brain deteriorates and that’s how neurological function is damaged.”

Fun times.

“Then, I found one that’s like Mad Cow Disease, but the human version.”

Ick.

“Does that cause people to kill and collect victims’ skulls?” she asked.

He shook his head.

“No.”

It looked like Ethan might be right in his profile. This was looking more like a mental illness driving the bus. Thus, Wendigo Psychosis and paranoia.

“Good research, CJ.”

When he yawned, Elizabeth looked at her watch.

“You should get some sleep. We need you fresh in the morning.”

Callen was to the point.

“Only if you join me,” he said. “We can crash on the couch.”

She could use a little sleep. They’d gotten some information, so she was in a good place to start tomorrow. She had some old Natives to talk to, and she needed forensics back.

“Deal,” she said. “You can go up to bed,” she said to Wyler.

He was to the point.

“How about I sit here and make sure you guys are okay?” he asked.

That also worked for her.

She shared something with him.

“Ethan said he’d dream walk with you, Wyler. He still loves you.”
