I blink at that, it tracks. It was around this time last year that I accidentally kidnapped a mafia boss. In my defense, he didn’t put up much of a fight. Though neither did I when he decided to kidnap me in response. “Wow. I didn’t realize it’s already been a year.”
Ava went off to college in early September, and I’ve been doing accounting for all of the businesses that Vin and Nic own since I graduated. A lot really has happened in a year. I round the island and put my arms around Nic’s neck. “I’m really glad we met.” I pull him in for a soft kiss.
“What about me? Are you glad we met?” Vin asks, walking into the room.
I grin against Nic’s mouth. When I pull away, I see Vin watching us with a smile on his face. “Yes. I’m glad I met you too.”
He walks up behind me, sandwiching me between the two of them. Leaning down, he presses a soft kiss to my lips as both of his arms wrap around my waist.
“Dude, watch the hands. You almost touched my dick,” Nic complains, taking a step back.
Vin pulls away, his eyes twinkling at me. “Do you think that could be considered masturbation? We share the same DNA, after all.”
I laugh and pull away from him. “You guys need help. I’m going to go take a quick shower and change out of my work clothes before dinner.”
When I walk back downstairs, I feel human again. I love math, but I’m starting to think I might need to make the guys find me an assistant or some part-time help at least. These books are a mess.
Nic and Vin are waiting for me in the dining room. We don’t usually eat in here, so it feels a bit more fancy than usual. I feel like maybe I should have put on a dress instead of my favorite jeans and one of Nic’s T-shirts. The spaghetti smells amazing, and I’m always happy when we all get to sit down together and eat dinner as a family. That’s not really something I had before I met them.
Nic watches me take my first bite and almost die of deliciousness overdose. When I go in for my second, he and Vin start in on their food too. When my plate is empty, I’m looking forward to the leftovers I know we’ll have for lunch tomorrow.
Nic puts down his fork. “So it’s been a year. You’re happy here with us, right?”
He looks unsure of himself as he asks the question. I can’t help the frown that forms on my lips at his expression. I reach across the table and cover his hand with mine. “Of course I’m happy. I love both of you. There’s nowhere else I would rather be.”
His eyes light up at that. I don’t tell either of them how I feel often enough. I should work on that this year.
“We would like you to stay. Permanently,” Nic says carefully.
“Was I supposed to leave before?” I question.
Vin chuckles, getting up from his chair. “No. We just never discussed before if you wanted to stay.” He crouches down next to me on one knee. It looks like it might be painful on the hardwood floor. His hand comes up and grips my left hand. “I love you. I want you to spend the rest of your life here with us. I want to grow old together with you and my brother.”
He reaches into his pocket, and my eyes widen, suddenly concerned I know exactly where this is going. A small velvet box is held out between us, and he flips it open. Inside is a beautiful solitaire ring. He holds it out to me. “Will you marry me?”
I panic, looking to Nic, who’s watching us with a strange expression. “But what about Nic? I don’t… I can’t choose.”
Vin smiles. “We’re not asking you to. We had an intense few rounds of… conversations and decided it would make the most sense for you to be legally married to me. We’ll have a ceremony for the three of us, but on paper, you’ll be my wife.”
I frown down at the table. “What about if we have kids? Would it be a problem if I have a child with Nic and not you? Do I need to have one with both of you? I don’t even know if I want kids.”
Yep, I’m panicking.
Vin reaches up and cups my cheek. “Technically, any child you have with either of us would also be genetically both of our child. Nobody is talking about kids yet. If you want them, that’s fine. If you don’t, that’s fine too. All we care about is spending the rest of our lives with you.”
I look to Nic, and he gives me a nod. Turning back to Vin, I hold out my hand. “Yes. I would love to marry you.”
“Fuck yeah!” he says and slides the ring onto my finger.
Then he scoops me out of the chair and carries me over his shoulder toward the stairs. “Nic, come fuck our fiancée with me!”
Vin doesn’t stop to wait for him as he carries me up the stairs. He doesn’t turn to my room, though; he walks us down the hall to his. He throws me down onto his bed, which has grown since the last time I was in here. It’s easily the size of two king-size beds pushed together. He grins at me when he sees me looking at the bed.
“We needed something bigger for our marital bed. If we’re all going to sleep in here, we needed more room.”
I look around the room and gasp at the change in decor. It used to be just Vin’s style in here, but now there are little spots of Nic here and there with some of the soft, soothing pastels I like. Nic hurries into the room out of breath. “What do you think? I helped.”
I smile at both of them. “I love it.”
