The Bear
The weight of the club rests on my shoulders and I feel as if I’m walking into an ambush.
Slice was waiting for me on the other side of the door and pats my shoulder as we walk out. “You’ll be back in time to get laid, Bear. Don’t worry,” he pacifies me.
I shrug him off and then bare my teeth at him. “It’s not about getting laid. It’s about the fact that one of my men is out there and I don’t even know where the fuck he is.”
All of my top ranking lieutenants are waiting for us at the bay door and we all walk to our bikes. I pass up riding my personal bike and go towards the one I use while doing club shit.
There’s a total of fifteen of us standing around making sure that all of our gear is right and I look over to my left. I can see Chantal pressed against the glass watching me leave. I adjust my bandana so that I could wink at her and she blushes.
“All right, boys. Simple formation. You know where you stand and where you ride. When we get there, I want it to be Armageddon when we pull up. Our best option is a surprise attack and if they have Half Ball, we can get him out quickly. You got me?” I say to everyone.
Smokey shakes his head but climbs onto his bike and starts it up as if that is going to tell me how he feels about the situation and the call I’ve made.
Knowing that this animosity is pissing me the fuck off, I decide to say something to everyone. I throw my fist in the air and everyone follows me. This has always been my signal that I want to have a serious conversation with everyone.
All of my men are squatted on their bikes and waiting for me to say whatever I have to say and I hope it resonates with them. “Look, I know a lot of you are not happy with my decisions about getting our brother back. If you’re not fuckin’ happy, say something right now. Just remember one thing though, the longer you sit here belly achin’ about how you don’t like something, Half Ball could be suffering.”
I finish my rant and light another cigarette. While I take a deep pull off of it, the guys are looking around and then back at me trying to decide if I were serious. Smokey is glaring at me as if I just kicked his cat or whatever.
Nobody says a damned thing.
“Well, that’s settled. Men, I need you on your A Game and we need to bring all brothers back. You got me?”
“Aye!” Everyone says at the same time but Smokey.
Slice hops off of his bike and walks over to where he’s standing to talk to me. “I move to have Smokey off of this mission,” he states to us as a group.
Mack Truck stands up to his full height next to his bike and had stopped loading the bullets into his gun. “Are you serious? For fuck’s sake.”
I use my left hand to bring my cigarette to my mouth and I hold the butt with my lips while ripping my bandana off of my face. “You got something to say?” I demand.
Flip takes this a cue to step up and tell us how he feels. “Fuck all of you. Our brother has been kidnapped and we are all at each other’s throats. This is bull shit. Prez, with all do respect, we need to go. Now!”
“We will discuss all of this when we get back. If you aren’t on the team to get Half Ball back, then pack your shit,” I say and hop on my bike.
I knew in this moment, Smokey was the one who tried to set me up and bomb me. If he stays, is he going to fuck with Chantal? If he comes with me, is he going to stab me in the ribs?
