“Mason!”

Chapter Nine

Lucian

“So, what’s going on with the boy in the hallway?” Ralf asks the minute we get out of Mason’s earshot.

“You know exactly what is going on,” I snipe. “What’s with all of the secrecy? He already knows it was Raul that gave him the shit.”

Ralf tsks and leans against my desk. “The police are going to come after Raul and then they are going to come after you. Everything you worked for is going to go down the drain. Lucian, you’re too hot of a commodity right now and everyone’s talking about your stashes. Your parties. Your wild and freaky fuck parties that you have during the weekend. You need to tone it down.”

“What are you suggesting?” I chance the question I really don’t want to know the answer to. “I’m not giving up my sector or my route!”

“I’m not asking you to give up your sector. But I am asking you to go underground.”

“Are you telling me I need to go out on the lam or some shit? What is this, Scarface?” I blurt.

My mind is spinning with possibilities of where I could go. I could go anywhere but who would run my gang? Who would run my route from Chicago to Canada? I can’t trust anyone in my gang to do it. I certainly don’t trust Ralf to do it without dipping into my profits.

I have to do something quick. I can’t do time in prison.

“Yeah. I’m asking you to go underground until this shit with Raul blows over. Word on the street is he sold that shit to about ten other people today.”

My anger sky rockets. “Is he trying to kill everyone?”

“No, he’s trying to ruin your name by selling that shit. Lucian, you gotta go underground.”

“Who would run my sector?” I ask stupidly.

Ralf smiles his dangerous smile that tells me he already has a plan. The man is always one step ahead of me and it scares me.

“You need to turn that boy into the KingPin. We’re going to have everyone think you disappeared but you’re still calling the shots.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I scoff. “There’s no way in hell he would do it.”

“He would do it if you asked him to do it. Luca, that boy is head over heels for you.”

I really start to laugh now. “You’ve been doing too many drugs.”

“We need him. He’s not known to be a hang around and he can help you get your shit back in order. Plus, you can focus on finding Raul.”

“And what are you going to do?” I ask him.

He nods and shrugs. “The same thing I always do. I’m going to supervise and make sure all of the sectors are running smoothly.”

“And where am I supposed to be? Who’s going to run my club? Who’s going to do the route? You can’t expect Mason to do all of that! That’s a lot for a newbie.”

And it is. Running the club is a full time job in itself. Running my route is another full time job and everything that falls between those two, is a head ache. My life isn’t easy and I don’t want to do this to Mason.

Ralf gets closer to me. “Look, I’m only going to tell you this one time. If Raul is framing you for giving shitty ass crank to some coke-heads, he’s going to come swinging. Your focus has to be on getting him exactly where you want him.”

My mind shifts back to Katie. Katie, the woman I saved from the bathroom where we almost lost our lives because of Ralf. The woman who saved countless women from being jumped into the gang like prostitutes. If I take the downtime, I would be able to focus on getting her better.

“I know what you’re saying, Ralf. It doesn’t mean I like it. I’m not leaving Detroit, though. You can suck a dick if you think I am.”

He chuckles. “Nah, you’ll be hiding out on the top floor of this building. Your members of your sector are not to know anything. We don’t know whose alliance is with you or Raul.”

Ralf checks his phone really quick and then grunts.
