Mason
Lucian is looking over the duffle bag with a snarl on her face. I know she's pissed off about this and I'm about to piss her off even more. I have to tell her about Paul. She has to know what is going to come back on her.
Luckily for me, Ralf is paying attention to Katie and not us.
"I called the hospital today," I hedge trying to gauge her facial expression.
"And?"
"They said Paul had a bunch of baggies in his stomach and one of them burst. That's why he had that problem."
"I'm going to kill that asshole," she mutters. "What did they do with the stash?"
"They gave it to the police."
Lucian jumps out of her chair and walks over to Ralf with her fists balled. "I need you to find this mother fucker."
He pushes her away with a quick flick of his wrist. She whirls around and starts pacing the dining room area. “That rat bastard is fuckin’ with me! He’s trying to destroy me and I have to play dead. This is ridiculous. I should never have allowed you to talk me into this!”
“Luca, you gotta calm down,” Katie tries to soothe her but it doesn’t work.
Lucian bypasses her friend to continue pacing. “I am not fucking calm! My own lieutenant is going to put me out of business. I can’t wait until I get my hands on him. The minute I get my hands around his neck, I’m going to fucking kill him! I’ll kill him. He won’t know what hit him.”
Seeing the amount of rage on Lucian’s face reminds me of who she really is. She has been acting low key since being in hiding, but this brings all of that shit back to light. In the end, Lucian is still going to be the QueenPin.
“How are you going to find him?” Ralf asks. “You’re stuck in here.”
She growls while still pacing. She’s going to have a worn spot where she keeps walking. “We need to set a trap. But how?”
“Do you know how to get ahold of him?” I ask without fully processing my question. Why did I speak up? I’m stupid.
Katie giggles and curls up on the couch with a blanket around her shoulders. “If they knew how to get ahold of him, they would have found him.”
“Look, if you go straight for him, he’s going to know. He almost killed my best friend! I get that your reputation is important, but Paul is one of my buddies,” I blab.
“What are you suggesting?” Katie asks tiredly.
Yeah? What am I suggesting?
I look past Lucian to the mirror on the wall. I focus all of my attention on that so I don’t seem nervous. I’m making a deal with the devil and I’m freaked out.
“He’s not going to talk to any of you because he knows you know. We need him to know I’m in charge and that will piss him off. Or someone tips him off about Paul’s hospital stay. That would scare him into making a mistake. Plus, he’s going to want those drugs back.”
Ralf sucks in a breath. “You’re willing to make yourself bait? Are you going to wave the bag in his face to let him know you have it? Have you thought about this all the way through?”
I shrug. No, I really haven’t thought about it. I do know I’m in too deep to do anything about it now. And I want Raul to pay for what he did to Paul.
“No, but I don’t see you guys coming up with anything else.”
Lucian clears her throat. “We’ll think of something. Raul showed up tonight and he must know we took his shit. It’s only going to be a short time before he attacks. He’s going to pounce on Mason, though. He’s the weakest link.”
I have always known that, but hearing it is a completely different thing. “Wow.”
Chapter Nineteen
Lucian
Mason is willing to step in front of Raul for me? Never in my life have I had someone who is not in my crew be willing to risk everything for me.
