“Paul died,” I mouth to her.
“What the fuck?” She exclaims.
I shrug and wait for the lady to answer my question.
“Yes. I regret to inform you of his death.”
“How did he die?” There has to be a reason other than his previous drug overdose. If he was stable enough to have visitors, he must have been on the mend.
“Ma’am, we have to do a proper investigation on all deaths of a younger person. We will let you know as soon as we get the results. Are you able to come and get his personal items?”
My mind is ticking off all of the ways Raul would have killed Paul in the hospital. And one of the ways I know he likes to kill is to interrupt the oxygen flow.
“Your husband just left and we tried to catch him,” the woman says.
“How long ago?”
“About ten minutes. We didn’t see his car leave the garage but we are unable to find him.”
Bingo! I know exactly where he is.
Raul’s going to be in for a rude awakening when I get my hands on that mother fucker.
“We have to get to the hospital!” I shout as I run past Katie. I’ve been eager to get out of this apartment since I became locked in here, but this is not the reason I thought I would be getting out.
My phone buzzes again and I answer it without checking the caller ID. “Hello?” I bark.
“Luca,” Ralf’s voice filters down the line.
“I can’t talk right now. I have to go!”
“Look, you’re in over your head. It’s an ambush.”
“I don’t give two fucks what you have to say.”
“You don’t fucking know what you’re walking into!” Ralf barks.
“What I know is the man that has stuck by my side is at the hospital facing a man who has tried to blow me up. I don’t give two fucks what you have to say because I’m going to do what I want anyway.” I hang up on him without him answering me.
“Luca, you’re going to get your ass jumped after this done,” Katie says behind me.
I’m grabbing the keys and opening the door to the hallway as Katie follows me.
The truth is, I know I’m fucked. I know Raul’s got one over me. He’s got the man I’m falling for. I have broken the number one rule of mine for all of these years.
Never fall for someone.

The whole way to the hospital, all I keep thinking about is all of the ways I’m going to kill Raul. I want to make it good. This mother fucker has continued to be a back stabber and a rat. Rats deserve to die.
“Be on the lookout,” I whisper to Katie from the passenger seat. I wanted to drive but being able to look out the window is more important than my pride.
We are in the parking garage of the hospital and about to be on the third level when we see a metallic flash beam from the lights. “There!” I yell and point.
“You sure? We only have one shot at this!”
“I’m sure. Park here. We can’t let them know we’re here!”
