“Raul, you’ve never been the one for me. You and I both know I could never be the one for you. Why are you fucking doing this? Are you stupid?”

She screamsstupidand it makes me wince. Is she trying to get us killed in the middle of the parking garage?

“Plus, you stole from me. How could you steal from me after everything I have done for you? I have bent over backwards!” Lucian demands.

“That’s enough!” Ralf orders from the side of the parking garage. His hand reaches out for Katie’s neck and he pulls her against him. The move is something I have never seen before.

Do they have something going on?

“Fuck off, Ralf! You did this!” Raul yells at him with his voice wavering. He knows he’s about to lose. “You want to know why I did what I did? I wanted to get back at you,” he spits at Lucian. “I wanted to get back at you for never wanting me the way I wanted you. For choosing him over me.”

I feel like an intruder as I watch the fight happen in front of my eyes. Raul’s pissed enough to kill me and then shoot Lucian. Katie is crazy enough to jump in front of the bullet before it hits Lucian.

Everything is fucked up and the only thing I can do is wait for a body to drop. I hope it isn’t Lucian’s body.

Ralf steps forward with his hand still around Katie’s neck but he stuffs her behind him. “I did what I thought was right for the gang. Turns out, I chose correctly. You stole from the only people who was keeping you alive.”

“Even after everything I did for her, she still chose Mason over me. He left her to die in the bathroom of the hotel, and she still chose him! Why wasn’t I good enough for you? I would have done everything for you and all you had to do was ask. Why the fuck didn’t you choose me?” Raul’s breathing deepens as he punches me in the stomach. I barrel over but don’t move my eyes from Lucian.

I’m waiting for her to tell me something. Anything. I’m waiting for her eyes to tell me she has a plan.

“You fucked up, Raul. You fucked up in so many different ways. You tried fucking with my business. You fucking gang raped me and all you had to do was be my trusted lieutenant. You couldn’t even have done that. Why would I have wanted you?” Lucians’ voice is even but the look in her eyes is deadly.

She’s baiting him and she’s about to end everything.

“I did what I did to show you why I was something more for you! Because of what you did, this is on you,” Raul stutters out.

I don’t have a chance to guess what he’s threatening right now. A sharp piercing feeling shoots through me as everything fades away.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Lucian

It happens in slow motion. The bullet flying out of Raul’s gun and hitting Mason’s chest. Everything happened in slow motion completely.

That was until my gun is aimed at the back of Raul’s head. I fire off my shot quickly and he drops to the ground. The echoing of the two bullets through the garage is enough to make the whole hospital come looking for us now.

That’s when I remember I’m supposed to be dead. I don’t give two fucks what I’m supposed to be. I’m supposed to be here for Mason. The acting boss of my gang. The man who has wormed his way through my heart.

Pocketing my gun, I’m running to Mason’s side as fast as I can get to him. Raul’s covering his body and I kick him off of Mason as I crouch down to his side.

I’m on the ground in seconds with Mason’s head in my lap. It comes natural to me to be this close to the man I have put through hell.

“Luca!” Katie’s voice is scared as she comes forward to help me. She knows how to help a gun shot wound. “It’s really deep,” she whispers.

“I’m going to get the hospital staff,” Ralf murmurs. “Are you sure this is how you want to do this? Nothing is ever going to be the same again,” he informs me.

I nod my head. I know exactly what he means. I need to leave and never come back. The thought of leaving everyone should have made me depressed, but I savor it. I want to leave all of this shit behind and be with Mason.

“I’m sure,” I reply and stare at Mason’s handsome face. “I’m so fucking sorry, Mason. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry you got dragged into the middle of everything. Please forgive me.”

“Ma’am! What happened?” A nurse questions with her eyes examining the situation.

Raul’s dead and I’m holding the head of Mason. We probably look like a bunch of circus freaks.

“It happened so fast! That man,” I point to Raul, “he tried to rob us and then shot my husband. I shot him out of self-defense.”

She nods and looks at Katie who’s seated right next to me. “Can you vouch for that?”
