Maci

I couldn’t fall asleep without Hawk in the house. We have been staying here for about two weeks, and as the days go by, he leaves longer and longer. It is always the same thing.

The sex is off the chains. Every time he comes home, he is eager to make me come more than the night before. I have never been with someone like him before. I don’t know what it is.

I’m waiting for Hawk to come home tonight before I can fall asleep. There is something about him coming home and snuggling with me that makes me fall asleep faster than before. It’s a strange thing.

It’s also something I have never had before.

Which is why I’m seated in the kitchen and dunking my teabag into my mug trying to relax. Working with Hawk is going pretty well, so I’m not stressed about that. I think I’m more stressed for the fact no one has any information on the hit that’s supposed to be out on me and my daughter.

Howie has been in constant contact with me, which is nice. However, how many times am I supposed to talk to him and hear the same bull shit reasons as to why no one has found the man who is carrying out the hit on me.

I know how men like Savros works. He’s not going to let just anyone know he’s out to kill an officer of the court. He’s going to bide his time and make me sick from the stress.

“Have you heard anything?” I ask Howie on the phone.

He snorts. “Nah. Turns out the clubs Savros’ men contacted have backed out. Word on the street is they are going to contract mafia to get rid of you.”

“That’s pleasant,” I mumble. “How much longer do I have to be in hiding for?”

I love being around Hawk. I’m surprised to admit it, but being around him is the best feeling I have ever felt in the world. He makes us feel safe.

Even Riley is liking it.

“Hawk still isn’t home?” Riley whispers.

I shrug. “No.”

Suddenly, there’s a crash and glass is being shattered all over the place as a bullet is shot through the window into the living room. Two feet away from Riley.

I scream and drop my phone. Riley has already been taught on what to do when something like this happens and she runs towards the closet. With the closet being too small for the both of us, I climb in between the two couches in hopes of it being discreet enough.

“I know you’re here, bitch,” a man shouts through the house. “When I catch you, I’m going to do all the things I promised our buddy, Savros.”

I stay rooted to my spot behind the couch and wait for something. Anything to happen. I’m waiting for the man outside of Hawk’s house to come running inside and come protect me.

I hear the footsteps of the man as they get closer and closer to me. They are loud. They are heavy. The floorboards creak below his heavy boots and give away where he is standing.

This is when it all ends. This is when my life is over my daughter is going to have to hear it all. I’m going to die.

I begin praying for the first time in a long time. Anything to help bring me some sort of protection.

My hair is being yanked and I scream out.

“Looks like I found the famous Maci!” The man cheers and pulls me up by the hair. “You’re prettier than your pictures give you credit for,” he teases.

My stomach jolts. Everything inside of me feels sick as he snarls at me. His teeth gleam in the light from the living room. He looks very much like the typical villain in any movie.

He tosses me against the wall and my back hits the corner of the wall with a thud. My body falls to the ground in a heap. I feel the ground beneath me shake as the man walks over to me.

“You thought you could hide out in some biker’s house? Huh? You thought you could have him kill my lackies? You stupid bitch!” He screams and hovers above me.

His hand goes straight to my throat where he squeezes my throat with all of his strength. His hand is strong and I’m clawing the fuck out of his hand.

Nothing works. He squeezes tighter and tighter until all I see are different sized dots around my eyes.

Until everything fades away as my body gives out.
