“Raina!”

“What?” I call out from surprise. I’m not expecting anyone to come over. “Hello?”

I’m looking around my car when I see Luke standing next to his sexy car. He’s holding a box of some type of food, a bottle of wine, and his gorgeous smile. His smile transforms his whole face making me melt.

“Hi,” he calls back while walking over to me.

The way he saunters over to me as my knees go weak. He screams power. He is very gorgeous.

“Uh, hi?” I greet stupidly. I really wasn’t expecting him to come over and I wasn’t expecting company again. Truth be told, I still have my mindset on taking a bath while drinking a couple of glasses of wine while trying to forget my day.

Luke stops in front of me with a smoldering smile on his face as if he is proud of himself for surprising me. He holds up the box of food while throwing his free arm around my shoulders.

“I wanted to make sure you ate dinner tonight,” he informs me casually.

My heart beats a little faster in my chest. “Thank you. That is incredibly sweet of you.”

“Don’t tell the tabloids!”

I lead us into my apartment while kicking off my shoes. My feet feel the slight sting of walking too much as my hamstrings burn a little from the long day. I look down at my clothes then a little at Luke.

“Do you need help changing out of them?”

I giggle. “No, thank you. Do you mind waiting about fifteen minutes? I really need to shower.”

He places the food on the counter as he begins rifling through my kitchen counter drawers looking for presumably the wine opener. “I don’t mind at all. I will get the food ready.”

Before leaving him in the kitchen, I look at him with sincerity. “Thank you for coming over. I had a tough day.”

He smiles. “No problem, beautiful. I will see you soon.”

Chapter Ten

Luke

The fact Raina is showering while I’m putting around her kitchen isn’t lost on me. I have no idea where she keeps her wine bottle opener and I’m pretty sure I have scoured the whole kitchen trying to find it.

I hear the shower turn on in her room along with the subtleclickof the door being locked. I’m not going to jump on her!

For the first time since that time she and I were together, I feel as if I need to take things slow. I need to figure out more about her, have her get to know me, too. I’m eager for something deeper than my past arrangements.

When I finally find the opener- which I did find in her dishwasher, I begin to dish out the food. I’m not sure what she likes to eat so I went with pretty basic food in hopes she will like it. It has been so long since I have cared this much about someone like this.

I hear the door to her room creak open and smell the sweetness radiating off of Raina as she appears in the kitchen.

“Something smells good,” she murmurs.

Everything seems so natural as we work together in the kitchen to get what is needed for dinner.

“I could get used to this,” Raina mumbles while taking a bite of her dinner. Her eyes roll back in her head briefly before opening them again. “This is so good.”

I went with Chinese food in the next town over from us. Since this town is so small, it would be almost impossible to get good Chinese food- much less real.

“I’m glad you like it. What happened at work?”

She sets her fork down on her plate then takes a sip off of her wine glass. “I don’t want to talk about it. How was your day?”

Seeing the way she said that only proves she is telling the truth. I couldn’t imagine how hard her job is and I wouldn’t be able to do it.
