He chuckles. “As a rule, I typically don’t Google me. It gets me all pissed off. What did you see?”
It is my turn to giggle. “Just that I’m your mystery woman.”
He grabs the suitcase from me. “I kind of like that.”
“Are you ready? You know my parents are going to ask a bunch of questions,” I remind him. I’m sure he forgot about how invasive my parents are. They mean well, or at least I think they do.
“As ready as I am for a root canal,” he jokes.
I fake being hurt. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
I’m trying to remind him he will be lying to his parents just as much as I am lying to mine. I’m not sure why Luke doesn’t tell his parents about his dating history. Maybe he is embarrassed.
“My parents are going to eat this up like a buffet. Are you kidding? They are going to be happy I’m bringing home a real woman.”
The drive to the ski lodge is only about an hour away and it gives us enough time to catch up. I learned that Luke was scouted in college, he has been traded twice and is hoping to stay on his current team.
I told him about going to school, being an intern and all of the weird stuff that happens at the hospital when no one is paying attention. He laughed after I told him about all of the affairs I have caught happening at the hospital.
“I can’t believe how many people cheat on their spouses,” he states.
I shrug. “I bet you have seen it, too,” I reply jealously.
I’m wondering if he would cheat on his spouse. I don’t know why it matters to me if he were to. Maybe I’m still upset about Colton possibly cheating on me. I don’t know if he cheated for sure or if I just imagined it. I hope he didn’t. That would break my heart if he did.
Actually, the more I think about it, I’m not sure if it were to bother me.
Luke reaches over to grab my hand in his. This is an intimate move that I wouldn’t have expected from him. I’m not under the illusion he’s going to fall madly in love with me over this weekend.
“When I get married, I would never do that to my wife. I would never intentionally hurt someone that I love.”
I believe him.
Chapter Twelve
Luke
I can already hear my mother going crazy about me bringing a date. I know she’s eager for me to settle down and give her the 2.5 grandchildren and live behind a white picket fence.
I meant it when I told Raina I would never intentionally hurt someone that I love. I don’t know what happened between her and that man who dumped her.
Spending this time getting to know her, made me want to get to know her more. I want to know everything about her and I want to know it right now.
The ski lodge is about another mile up the road with the ski lifts highlighting the famous mountain. This ski lodge is a beautiful one and I can’t wait to spend this time with Raina.
Karl drove separately to the lodge because he likes to have access to his own vehicle. I secretly wonder if he did that to make sure he wasn’t being the third wheel in the car for us.
My hand is still wrapped in Raina’s hand which I have to shake loose since we are about to pull into the lodge.
The white snow glistens under the sun making everything seem so majestic. “I forgot how beautiful it is here,” I admit out loud.
She hums her agreeance. “I don’t come here nearly enough. I have been so busy with work and everything else… I’m excited to take a break.”
We pull into the parking lot outside of the cabin that was rented. Of course, it is the cabin nearest to our parents. I like the fact our parents are good friends but the nearness is a little troubling.
“Are you looking forward to the Sweetheart Dance?” I ask as I throw the car in park.
Every year the ski lodge has a dance for all of the members of the lodge. It is a pretty prestigious party and people get really into it. I’m looking forward to bringing Raina as my date.
